Team Lightning : Tournament arrangements

Two trophies will be played for on the basis of a five round swiss. Both events will be played for by the same

four man teams. The arbiter for the event will be ECF arbiter Colin Hailstone. Team entries, with player grad-

ings, to Stephen Greep ([email protected]) no later than Friday 30th July.

The George Willoughby Trophy (2016 Champions Hull C) – open to teams of four players. No grade re-

strictions.

The Peter Withill Trophy (2016 Champions Hull All Stars) - A handicap tournament with handicaps based on the HDCA four Board handicap system, with team grading differences applying: In the event of any defaulted boards grades will apply as per the HDCA summer league rules. Players grades will be those current during the 2016/17 season. Where players have a 2016/17 rapid play grade (based on a minimum of 10 games) this must be used, otherwise normal play grades will be used.

Playing rules

It’s a five round swiss. 10 second Lightning – players must move on the buzzer. Players not moving on the buzzer default and Illegal moves will default (must be claimed – otherwise play continues).

After 20 minutes (60 moves per player) the arbiter may call a halt to the round and arbitrate any remaining games. We have allowed only 25 minutes per round so must be prompt.

On completion of matches the wining team captain to inform the arbiter of the result – presenting a sheet signed by both captains. Two points for a win, one point for a draw. Each team must have a nominated captain. As per association rules a ten point tolerance in Board position is allowed.

When your game is finished pleased respect those still playing and keep sound to a minimum

Pairings will be determined by the standing in the George Willougby trophy. The nominated home team will have white on even boards. If there are even number of teams one team will receive a two point bye in each round.

A player may offer a draw – this must be agreed before the 10 seconds has expired and declined by the opposing player making his move. A player may not claim a draw on grounds which normally require the existence of a game score e.g. repetition

Except insofar as they conflict with the Rules given above, the normal Laws of Chess (including the touch move Rule) shall apply

In the event of a tie for either trophy the tie breaks shall be as the current HDCA new rules – i.e. the first tie breaker being boards for compared with boards against; then the results between teams involved in the

.

After Round Three of the Lightning tournament there will be a break when trophies

from the 2016/17 season will be presented, by Steve King, President of the HDCA.

Trophies for the two Team Lightning competitions will be presented at the end of the

evening.
