Melbourne Vantage Points Architecture Design Thesis Project4 Insertions in freeway loops l MelbourneThe project questions the possibility to revitalize the left over 'islands' created by the freeways. 4 sites in Melbourne with similar condition were selected. The project explores a design process that improves the traditional, linear configuration of infrastructure. The design process experiments on idea and form creation while introducing series of architectural events into the buildings.

The major issue on the sites are the isolation created by the freeways. Instead of viewing it as a purlely problematic and fragmented site, the site should be seen to have the potential to establish a "new condition" in Melbourne by reconnecting them back to the city.
The design process includes the intesive stages of form testing. The experiments were driven by the concept of framing. The idea was to frame the landmarks that are located near to the site, and by this move, the form itself varies and create landmarks by its own.
All of the buildings are designed to havd 4 levels of car parking area as it is vehicular based access.
Building 1 Melbourne Vantage Points
The 1st building in site 1 is designed to frame the Melbourne Art Spire and the Australian Center of Contemporary Art (ACCA). The form was experimented throughout the design process via the method of framing and lofting the form of the existing landmarks. The material used of the diagrid structures are metal finished by the red rusted surface texture that is similar to the facade of ACCA.
Building 2Melbourne Vantage Points
The 2ns building in site 2 is designed to frame the towers across the other side of Citylink. The form was crafted based on the pitching a tip of the flat site to the higher point of the towers. Therefore, a underside is created to house the existing open car parking area and it can be used as an event space, at the same time utilising the underneath spaces of the Citylink.
Building 3Melbourne Vantage Points
The 3rd building in site 3 is designed to frame the Bolte Bridge and building 2. The main frames were lofted based on the views towards the landmarks that it is framing. The finishing material is vertival metal panels which have the similar textured to the surrounding warehouses.
Building 4Melbourne Vantage Points
The 4th building in site 4 is designed to frame the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel and building 3. The form was crafted directy through boolean of the view to the ferris wheel. The main space is the courtyard which is framing the existing landmark. It is public accessible with seating areas and retails/ cafes. The towers consists of offices which are connected on the 4th level - the courtyard is acting as the top most level of the podium.
RememberingConstruction Site Safety Memorial l Treasury Gardens, MelbourneThe studio questions the role of memorial on a day to day basis - the provision of an important social construct. The monumental building sets a reminder to remember the importance of construction site safety. The ground level of the memorial are designed to fit the daily use of the park by merging into the original landscape. Hardscapes are designed to fit the need of events/ functions that will be held during the particular memorial date. The design outcome introduced a psychological center and meeting area for CFMEU union into the memorial, challenging the historical role of a memorial which is acting as an object and pure 'monumentality' value.
Remembering - design processArchitecture 5th Year Design StudioModel Making l MelbourneThe studio involves different design experimentation each week, through section development and physical models. Model making plays an important role through the design process each week.
The Docklands SpectrumPublic Underside, Theatre & Office Tower l Docklands North Wharf, MelbourneThe studio concerned with the spatial strategies that can be used to create new relationship with existing conditions. Focusing on how a set of techniques, operations and strategies can give us new possibilities within an existing framework. The project is designed and developed based on the techniques of boolean, twisting, lofting, wrapping and collision. In order to revitalise the site, the form was created to reveal the public underside of the building.By twisting the form of the wharf towards the bolte bridge, the issue of flatness on the site can be resolved by reconnecting it back to the city.
The design was developed mainly based on form testing. 10 forms were created each week, sums up into over 50 forms before finalising the design. This enriches the design by going through experimentation of form and a bold move from the design process. The design outcome is a new landmark in Docklands precinct and could be act as a successful public space for events such as fireworks watching.
The Courtyard LibraryPublic Underside, Theatre & Office Tower l Docklands North Wharf, MelbourneThe studio aims to explore the relationships between the programmatic function of library and the facade of it. The courtyard library tends to challenge the traditional function of a library, trying to blur and break the boundary between the interior of the library and the exterior (ie the courtyard spaces). Different programmatic layout was experimented throughout the design process. The design outcomes focus on the courtyard in the ground level, which serves as a multi-functioned area. The in-between spaces between the 'box' and the 'sack' acting as reading areas. It enriches the user experience within a single library building.
The form of the library was generated based on circulation through the programmatic functions and spatial requirements.

Anthropometric PatternPattern recognition, Apartment corridor l MelbourneThe design outcome was inspired by anthropometric scale and movement. The experiment was carried out through a typical apartment corridor. The design process includes the crafitng of the forms through human posture and movement to explore different possibilities for the interior experience of a particular space.

Floating Water PurifierFuturistic Floating Water Harvester and Purifier l MelbourneThe elective explores the future possibility of architecture to resolve or reduce the environmental issues. Besides, the process of design is refined and developed based on the conceptual idea of comic in architecture. We looked at precedents on drawing styles to develop a specific drawing style for the design outcome.
The rainwater will be collected by the cap of floating water purifier , it will be filters through the pipes running down. The top most part will fuctions as the lifting mechanism via the controlling of air pressure. The floating water purifier could be serve as a sculpture that accomodates public activities while purifying the harvested water.

100 Years City Infograph Architectural Infograph on housing condition l Dengkil, MalaysiaThe elective examines different possibilities to represents information. The project starts from simple relationship (bubble) diagrams by mapping out the relationship between different categories that are related to the main information. The outcome represents an infograph that shows the housing requirement condition in Dengkil, Malaysia. The same idea was used to generate the same particular info of Sabah and Labuan. The infographs can be used as data comparisons.

City Condition - Relationship Diagram
Recycling Craft CenterInstitutional Recycled MateirlsdCraft Center/ Workshop l Jalan TAR, Malaysia The Recycling Craft Center is a mixed use building which is located at the corner of the traditional lot of shophouses along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR). The programmatic function of the building was identified based on the issue found on site - which is the presence waste from the surrounding retails. The buidling was designed to store and reuse the waste materials such as cardboards for crafting and furniture making. There are basement car parking area, retails, cafe, exhibition area, workshops, classrooms, library and dwelling units. The project aims to improve the existing condition of the street by injecting new building and activities to revitalise the street.
Car Park OfficeTemporary Office in open car parking area l Taylor's University CP Area, Malaysia The form of security car park office was inspired by the concept of an 'eye', which gives the meaning of 'watching'.
The project focused on the technical and construction detailing of the joints and the structures of the design. The material selections are timber structure with aluminium composite cladding panels. The joints details are documented and specifications are included in the drawings. The detailing of the design was studied based on drawings and model making larger scale.
MBT Workshop & Factory Monfort Boys Towrn Timber Chalet Workshop & Factory l Shah Alam, MalaysiaThe frist phase of the project is to design a single dwelling pre-fabricated chalet in a rubber estate. Then, the MBT Workshop & Factory is designed to accomodate the production stages of the chalet. The material used for the workshop is similar to that of the chalet, which are steel structures with timber panels as facade.
Desa Tebrau - PlenitudeCommercial Block & Apartment Towers l Tebrau, Johor, MalaysiaThe project consists of a commercial block at the entrace and 4 residential towers which are connected by a podium. There are 10 types of units in the residential towers. The project is broken down into 4 stages. The commercial block's construction is completed in 2015 and the residential towers are currently under construction.

Measured DrawingsDocumentation and historical background analysis of Poh Choo Seah l Penang, MalaysiaThe aim of the project is to document and analyse the history of Poh Choo Seah, a UNESCO Heritage Building in Penang, Malaysia. The building have been measured and documented at site by the team. We are required to document the heritage elements in detail and produce a report on the historical background of the building.
Forest of WheelsInstallation l Malaysia
Forest of WheelsMalaysia PADI Workshop Installation Competition l 1st runner upThe workshop's theme is the synergy of passive design intervention. The installation was inspired by the traditional essence of the country's living. The idea was to create an installation that allows interation between the people and the object. The visitors can play with the wheels while the movement of wheels create a moment to reflect, to ponder, to reminisce and to rekindle the memories of our past.
The materials are used timber pallets and bicycle wheels, which adds on the value of sustainability to the design. The used materials were sourced from workshop and factories waste, giving values to the materials which were categorized as unwanted materials.
The timber pallets were acting as supporting structures and the wheels can be spin and allow visitor to interact with the installation physically.
Architectural Sketches Site Documentation by sketching l Penang , MalaysiaSketching the architectural elements that can be found on site. Documenting the heritage architectural details through sketching.
Coffeecups Doodle SeriesDoodling on disposable coffee cups collections l MelbourneA series of doodling on used disposable coffee cup. The medium was mainly pens & line doodles. Different presentations/ styles were introduced onto the cups where some of them are printed/ stamped with the logo of the particular cafe.
