To qualify for the Class 3A State Meet, athletes must finish in the top 18 in their events. State qualifiers for the Tigers and their rankings are: 100-meter dash Senior Bryant Lechman, 9 th (tie), 11:38; senior Shay Benson, 15 th , 11.49; sophomore Derrick Little, 19th (tie), 11.55. 200-meter dash – Lechman, 8 th , 22.91; Benson, 18 th , 23.53. 1600-meter run – Junior Isaac Bernatchez, 17 th , 4:40.12. Shot put – Senior Brent Gilliland, 5 th , 48-3. High jump – Sophomore Austin Chavez, 1 st , 6-5; sophomore Mike Chavez, 12 th , 5-11. Long jump – Mike Chavez, 16 th , 20-2. Triple jump – Mike Chavez, 7 th , 41-9; senior James Skerjanec, 13 th (tie), 41-1.25. Several of the SHS athletes return to the state meet after competing last year. On the girl’s side Chavez won the state title in the long jump with a distance of 17-5. She was also third in the triple jump and tied for third in the high jump. Chavez and Burtard were members of the Lady Tiger 4x200- meter relay team that places seventh with a time of 1:44.82. Rutz and Burtard competed on the 800-meter sprint medley squad that also placed seventh with a clocking of 1:52.28. Rutz, Burtard and Carey were on the Lady Tiger 4x100-meter relay team that placed 15 th in the preliminaries but did not qualify for the finals. For the Tigers, Skerjanec was the runner-up in the triple jump at state last year with a distance of 41-8.25. He entered the state meet ranked 18 th in that event. Lechman was a seventh place finisher in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.49. He pulled his hamstring near the finish line, but was still able to compete in the 200-meter dash where he placed ninth at 23.22. Kaan and Austin Chavez tied for 10 th in the high jump at 5-9 and Zimmerman also competed in that event but did not place. Zimmerman was an 11 th place finisher in the pole vault with a height of 11-7. Lechman and Little were members of the 4x200-meter relay team that placed 10 th in the prelims but did not qualify for the finals. Little was also on the 4x100-meter relay team that was 15 th in the preliminaries but did not qualify for the finals. Bernatchez and Mike Chavez ran on the 4x800-meter relay team that placed 15 th in the preliminaries but did not qualify for the finals. The cost is $30 per-camper if paid before May 29 and $40 at the course. Times are 8-9:30 a.m. for K-4th graders and 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for 5th-9th graders.
