GENERAL INFOS AND APPLICATIONENVIRONMENT
S5700 Layer 3 switch can replace a router to implement communication between VLANs using VLANIF interfaces. Describing this brief procedure we will assume that departments of an enterprise are located on different network segments and use the same services, such as Internet access and VoIP. The departments are in different VLANs, so inter-VLAN communication must be implemented. In this semplified network environment, as shown in the picture, Department 1 and Department 2 use the same service, but they belong to different VLANs (vlan 10 and vlan 20) and network segments. Users in Department 1 and Department 2 need to communicate with each other.

CREATING VLANS ON THE SWITCHES FOR DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS
<SwitchB> system-view
[SwitchB] vlan batch 10 20
1. Create vlans on SwitchBEnter the configuration view
Create vlan 10 and vlan 20
2. Create vlans on SwitchA
<SwitchA> system-view
[SwitchA] vlan batch 10 20
Enter the configuration view
Create vlan 10 and vlan 20
ADDING LAYER 2 INTERFACES TO THE VLANS (1)
3. Add layer 2 interfaces to vlans of SwitchB
[SwitchB] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/1[SwitchB-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] port link-type trunk[SwitchB-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] port trunk allow-passvlan 10 20[SwitchB-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] quit
Enter the interfaceview
Configure the porttype
Configure the vlans for the port
Exit the interfaceview
ADDING LAYER 2 INTERFACES TO THE VLANS (2)
[SwitchA] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/1
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] port link-type trunk
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] port trunk allow-pass vlan10 20
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/1] quit
[SwitchA] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/2
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/2] port link-type access
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/2] port default vlan 10
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/2] quit
[SwitchA] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/3
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/3] port link-type access
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/3] port default vlan 20
[SwitchA-GigabitEthernet0/0/3] quit
4. Add layer 2 interfaces to vlans of SwitchA
Enter the interface view
Configure the port type
Configure the vlans for the port
Exit the interface view
CREATING VLANIF INTERFACES AND CONFIGURING IP ADDRESSES ON LAYER 3 SWITCH (SWITCHB)
5. Create vlanif interfaces and assign IP address on SwitchB
[SwitchB] interface vlanif 10
[SwitchB-Vlanif10] ip address 10.10.10.1 24
[SwitchB-Vlanif10] quit
[SwitchB] interface vlanif 20
[SwitchB-Vlanif20] ip address 20.20.20.1 24
[SwitchB-Vlanif20] quit
Create the vlanif and enter the vlanif view
Exit the vlanif view
Assign the IP address to the vlanif
CHECKING THE CONFIGURATION6. Check the configuration on SwitchB
[SwitchB] display current configuration#sysname SwitchB
#vlan batch 10 20
#interface Vlanif10ip address 10.10.10.1 255.255.255.0
#interface Vlanif20ip address 20.20.20.1 255.255.255.0
#interface GigabitEthernet0/0/1port link-type trunkport trunk allow-pass vlan 10 20
#return
CHECKING THE CONFIGURATION7. Check the configuration on SwitchA
[SwitchA] display current configuration#sysname SwitchA#vlan batch 10 20#interface GigabitEthernet0/0/1port link-type trunkport trunk allow-pass vlan 10 20#interface GigabitEthernet0/0/2port link-type accessport default vlan 10#interface GigabitEthernet0/0/3port link-type accessport default vlan 20#return
