Vlan aggregation is a feature that prevents the

waste of IP addresses and implements inter-vlan

communication in enterprise network environment.

Using vlan aggregation, you need to configure IP

address only in super-vlan interface, without having

to assign IP addresses for each of the sub-vlans: all

sub-vlans share the same IP network-segment.

In our example we will assume a simple

configuration scenario: on an enterprise network, we

have different departments belonging to different

vlans; employees in different departments need to

communicate with ech other. As shown in the picture,

the super-vlan will be VLAN 10 and the sub-vlans

will be VLAN 5 and VLAN 7. The PC’s IP addresses

are in the same IP network segment and are shown

in the table.

PC1 PC2 PC3 PC4

PC1 IP address: 100.1.1.2/24

PC2 IP address: 100.1.1.3/24

PC3 IP address: 100.1.1.4/24

PC4 IP address: 100.1.1.5/24

CONFIGURING PROXY ARP FOR THE SUPER-VLAN

[Huawei] interface vlanif 10

[Huawei-Vlanif10] quit

5. Configure proxy arp

6. Verify the configuration (vlan 5 is reachable from vlan 7)

PC1> ping 100.1.1.4

Ping 100.1.1.4: 32 data bytes, Press Ctrl_C to break

From 100.1.1.4: bytes=32 seq=1 ttl=127 time=16 ms

From 100.1.1.4: bytes=32 seq=2 ttl=127 time<1 ms

From 100.1.1.4: bytes=32 seq=3 ttl=127 time<1 ms

From 100.1.1.4: bytes=32 seq=4 ttl=127 time<1 ms

From 100.1.1.4: bytes=32 seq=5 ttl=127 time=31 ms
