AMBITION

Since I arrived in Primary 1, I have always admired how stunning the Old School building is with the mountains in the distance. Even today, after eleven years, when I walk up the main drive, I have to stop and take in the wonderful scenery.”S5 PUPIL

WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

WE BELIEVE THAT NO OTHER SCHOOL IN SCOTLAND POSSESSES SUCH A FAMILY-ORIENTED, INCLUSIVE SPIRIT AS MORRISON’S ACADEMY.One characteristic defines Morrison’s Academy above all others: its unique atmosphere. We believe that no other school in Scotland possesses such a family-oriented, inclusive spirit as Morrison’s and this has been nurtured through generations of Morrisonian pupils who have benefited from two key features: the school is large enough for breadth of choice yet small enough for every individual to have the opportunity to flourish and participate.

Morrison’s Academy has a rich history and a long tradition of successful academic teaching of boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18. A team of dedicated professionals, who cherish traditional values yet are flexible enough to place them within a modern context, guarantee a high- quality education. Consequently, teachers and pupils hold each other in high regard. Parents, who are encouraged to have a close involvement in their children’s progress, comment favourably on this atmosphere of mutual respect. Personal development is further enhanced through participation in the extensive range of co-curricular activities where fostering of team spirit and development of individual talent are of paramount importance.

We constantly review our educational provision to ensure that it meets the needs of our pupils who will have to take their place in a fast-changing world. At the same time we aim to provide our pupils with an excellent all-round education.

The holistic approach we take with each pupil encourages not only the spirit of inquiry in academic subjects but also the confidence to tackle new hobbies and interests – some of which will last throughout life. In addition to this, the friendships fostered at Morrison’s provide a network far beyond the boundaries of school.

Most importantly, we recommend a visit to the school to see for yourself why Morrison’s Academy is the first choice independent day school in Perthshire.

I like Morrison’s because it is a small school where we all know each other and there is a sense of family spirit. The older ones help the younger ones.S2 PUPIL

CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO FLOURISH AT MORRISON’S NURSERY: THIS IS THE START OF A JOURNEY TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR THE BEST POSSIBLE FUTURE.

When I leave nursery I

will have to close my eyes

very hard so that I do

not cry...

NURSERY

We believe that every day at Nursery should be a stimulating experience for your child. Consequently, our Nursery gives children the best possible start in their social and educational journey in a safe, exciting and motivating environment.

Parents, too, can spend time in the Nursery seeing what their children are doing and we warmly welcome parents who can bring special skills or talents into the Nursery. The communication between the Nursery and parents is vital and, although we see you informally throughout the year, you will receive both written and verbal reports on the progress of your child and we are always happy to hear from you on how and what we are doing.

PRIMARY

Classes broadly follow national curricular guidelines while maintaining a distinctive Morrisonian character.

As the pupils embark on their Primary education, our P1-3 classes equip them with the essential building blocks of literacy, numeracy and thinking skills on which their future success depends. Highly qualified and experienced teachers, bright classrooms, well-chosen resources, newly updated technology and a wide variety of teaching methods ensure that children become engaged in the learning process. Individual classes are small and pupils are highly motivated in a well-disciplined, supportive environment.

As the children move on into the upper stages of the Primary School (P4-6) the core subjects continue to be developed. However, expectations and challenges become higher and the pupils are introduced to a broadening curriculum.

The pupils are engaged in many different ways within the classroom and are learning new skills and approaches to their work. There is an excellent balance between practical, oral and written work and the children are increasingly encouraged to think for themselves as well as to work cooperatively with others in group situations.

The Transitional year (P7) is designed to prepare the pupils for their entry into the Secondary department. Transitional pupils are taught by Senior School specialists in some curricular areas but remain with their Primary teacher for core subjects.

AT THE HEART OF THE SECONDARY CURRICULUM IS THE KEY PRINCIPLE OF CHOICE. PUPILS AT MORRISON’S HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT SUBJECTS FROM A WIDE, MODERN CURRICULUM: THE SYSTEM THAT WE USE IS ADAPTABLE AND REVOLVES AROUND THE INDIVIDUAL NEEDS OF PUPILS.

My first impressions were that everyone was very friendly and people tried to help you fit in and include you. S3 PUPIL

SECONDARY

Having followed a broad academic course in S1 and S2, the pupils at Morrison’s select 8 subjects as they progress towards Higher Still Intermediate examinations at the end of S4. Heads of Year consult closely with parents and offer pupils helpful advice on subject choice. Every effort is made to accommodate the wishes of the pupil. A similar process takes place in S5 and S6 as pupils select the 5 and then 3 subjects respectively that they will study by way of preparation for university.

All staff are concerned with the care and welfare of the pupils. Complementing and supplementing this, though, is the guidance and support that each child at Morrison’s Academy is given by Heads of Year. The school promotes sound values and a sense of responsibility in every pupil.

Small class sizes

Excellent academic results

MORRISON’S ACADEMY IS A BUSY PLACE BOTH IN AND BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. WE BELIEVE THAT THE MULTITUDE OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAT WE OFFER IS A VITAL INGREDIENT IN FOSTERING AN ATMOSPHERE OF MUTUAL RESPECT.

CO-CURRICULAR

Morrison’s Academy is a busy place both in and beyond the classroom. We believe that the multitude of co-curricular activities that we offer is a vital ingredient in fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect.

If the measure of a school is gauged by the opportunities it offers its pupils, then Morrison’s Academy is, by anyone’s standards, successful. We share parents’ ambitions to bring out the best in their children. Consequently, we pride ourselves in developing the whole child, not only pursuing academic excellence but also instilling in our pupils a desire to participate in as wide a range of co-curricular activities as possible.

The school offers a broad spectrum of clubs and societies and, with a tradition of excellence in the Performing Arts, coupled with extensive, healthy, sporting opportunities (from rugby to cross-country, hockey to kayaking) we are confident that every pupil has the chance to find, choose, participate and develop his/her talents.

Morrisonís always tries to bring out the best in you, always offering new opportunities and challenges, along with a sense that the teachers really want you to succeed. S1 PUPIL

ALTHOUGH THE REPUTATION OF THE SCHOOL IS MADE UP OF MANY FACTORS, ONE OF MORRISON’S ACADEMY’S GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS IS ITS RECOGNISED ABILITY TO PRODUCE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE FINE CITIZENS.

Morrison’s Academy, through the dedication of the teachers, helped me reach my potential and gave me a terrific amount of confidence; for this I am very grateful.FORMER PUPIL

THE FUTURE

When they leave at the end of S6, Morrisonians are mature individuals who have developed that invaluable balance between confidence and humility. Morrison’s Academy’s inclusive and caring environment produces great ambassadors for the school: young adults who are equipped with academic qualifications and key skills for the future.

However, the connection with Morrison’s does not end once S6 pupils leave on Speech Day. Current pupils at Morrison’s greatly value the links that former pupils maintain with the school. This might take the form of returning to speak to pupils: lectures given in recent years by FPs include ‘Global Challenge Round the World Yacht Race’ and ‘Arctic Ice Cap and Influences on Climate’. FPs also provide work experience opportunities for senior pupils or attend events such as Sports Day.
