Hymn: TiS 59
1. All people that on earth do dwell,
sing to the Lord with cheerful voice:
him serve with mirth, his praise forth
tell;
come ye before him and rejoice.
2. Know that the Lord is God indeed;
without our aid he did us make:
we are his folk, he doth us feed,
and for his sheep he doth us take.
3. O enter then his gates with praise,
approach with joy his courts unto;
praise, laud and bless his name
always,
for it is seemly so to do.
4. For why the Lord our God is good;
his mercy is for ever sure;
his truth at all times firmly stood,
and shall from age to age endure.
William Kethe
d.1594 alt.
Greeting: The Lord be with you.
AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4)
Sentence: The redeemed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with
singing; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads. Isaiah 51.11
3
Prayer of Preparation:
As we gather as God's people let us pray together:
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration
of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you,
and worthily magnify your holy name,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Summary of the Commandments:
‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and
with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment.
And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’
4
The Confession
Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's
forgiveness.
Merciful God, our maker and our judge,
we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
and in what we have failed to do:
we have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;
we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.
Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you
in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Absolution (Celebrant)
Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to
him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins,
strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
5
Gloria – Ushaw Setting (Alan Rees)
CHOIR: Glory, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest,
ALL:
and peace to God’s people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High
Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
6
Prayer of the Day
O God, you give light to the blind and comfort to the sorrowing, and in
your Son you have given us a High Priest who has offered the true
sacrifice for us and yet can sympathise with us in our weakness: hear the
cry of your people and lead us home to our true country, where with your
Son and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, in glory everlasting.
Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD
Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)
First Reading: Job 42:1-5, 10-17
42Then Job answered the Lord: 2 ‘I know that you can do all things, and that
no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 “Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?” Therefore I have
uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did
not know. 4 “Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me.”
5 I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you;
10 And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he had prayed for his
friends; and the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. 11
Then there
came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before,
and they ate bread with him in his house; they showed him sympathy and
comforted him for all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him; and each
of them gave him a piece of money and a gold ring.12
The Lord blessed the
latter days of Job more than his beginning; and he had fourteen thousand
sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand
donkeys. 13
He also had seven sons and three daughters. 14
He named the first
Jemimah, the second Keziah, and the third Keren-happuch. 15
In all the land
there were no women so beautiful as Job’s daughters; and their father gave
them an inheritance along with their brothers. 16
After this Job lived for one
hundred and forty years, and saw his children, and his children’s children,
four generations. 17
And Job died, old and full of days.
Response: Hear the word of the Lord,
THANKS BE TO GOD
7
Psalm 34.1-8
1 I will bless the Lord continually:
his praise shall be always in my mouth.
2 Let my soul boast of the Lord:
the humble shall hear it and rejoice.
3 O praise the Lord with me:
let us exalt his name together.
4 For I sought the Lord's help and he answered:
and he freed me from all my fears.
5 Look towards him and be bright with joy:
your faces shall not be ashamed.
6 Here is a wretch who cried, and the Lord heard me:
and saved me from all my troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps round those who fear him:
and delivers them in their need.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good:
happy are they that hide in him!
Second Reading: HEBREWS 7.21-28 21
but this one became a priest with an oath, because of the one who said to
him,‘ The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind, “You are a priest for
ever” ’— 22
accordingly Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better
covenant. 23
Furthermore, the former priests were many in number, because
they were prevented by death from continuing in office; 24
but he holds his
priesthood permanently, because he continues for ever. 25
Consequently he is
able for all time to save those who approach God through him, since he
always lives to make intercession for them. 26
For it was fitting that we should
have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separated from sinners,
and exalted above the heavens. 27
Unlike the other high priests, he has no
need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those
of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself. 28
For the law
appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of
the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made
perfect for ever.
Response: Hear the word of the Lord,
THANKS BE TO GOD

Gradual Hymn: TiS 211
1. Jesus, lover of my soul,
let me to thy refuge fly,
while the nearer waters roll,
while the tempest still is high;
hide me, O my Saviour, hide,
till the storm of life is past;
safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last.
2. Other refuge have I none,
hangs my helpless soul on thee;
leave, ah! leave me not alone,
still support and comfort me:
all my trust on thee is stayed,
all my help from thee I bring;
cover my defenceless head
with the shadow of thy wing.
3. Thou, O Christ, art all I want,
more than all in thee I find,
raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name,
I am all unrighteousness;
false and full of sin I am,
thou art full of truth and grace.
4. Plenteous grace with thee is found,
grace to cover all my sin;
let the healing streams abound,
make and keep me pure within:
thou of life the fountain art,
freely let me take of thee,
spring thou up within my heart,
rise to all eternity.

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet
our Lord who is present in His Holy Word.
The Lord be with you
AND ALSO WITH YOU
The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 10
beginning at the 46th
verse.
GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.
46
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving
Jericho, Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the
roadside. 47
When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout
out and say, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ 48
Many sternly ordered
him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy
on me!’49
Jesus stood still and said, ‘Call him here.’ And they called the blind
man, saying to him, ‘Take heart; get up, he is calling you.’ 50
So throwing off
his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51
Then Jesus said to him, ‘What do
you want me to do for you?’ The blind man said to him, ‘My teacher, let me
see again.’ 52
Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has made you well.’
Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,
PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

SERMON - (copy of sermon available at back of church)
The Nicene Creed
Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.
We believe in one God,
the Father, the almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary
and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
11

THE GREETING OF PEACE (all stand)
{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ.
His Spirit is with us.
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.
[A greeting of peace is exchanged with those around us]
Offertory Hymn:
TiS 517
1. Hallelujah! sing to Jesus,
his the sceptre, his the throne;
hallelujah! his the triumph,
his the victory alone;
hark, the songs of peaceful Zion
thunder like a mighty flood:
‘Jesus out of every nation
has redeemed us by his blood.’
2. Hallelujah! not as orphans,
are we left in sorrow now;
hallelujah! he is near us,
faith believes, nor questions how;
though the cloud from sight received
him
when the forty days were o’er,
shall our hearts forget his promise,
‘I am with you evermore’?
3. Hallelujah! bread of heaven,
and on earth our food, our stay;
hallelujah! here the sinful
flee to you from day to day;
intercessor, friend of sinners,
earth’s redeemer, plead for me
where the songs of all the sinless
sweep across the crystal sea.
4. Hallelujah! King eternal,
you the Lord of lords we own;
hallelujah! born of Mary,
earth your footstool, heav’n your
throne:
you within the veil have entered,
robed in flesh, our great high priest;
you on earth both priest and victim
in the eucharistic feast.
William Chatterton Dix

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION
{Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
We who are many are one body,
For we all share in the one bread.
The Choir sings the Agnus Dei

remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with
thanksgiving.
Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church
are invited to share communion with us.
Communion wine may be received:
(a) from the common cup from the first of the two Eucharistic Assistants.
(b) by intinction from the second of the Eucharistic Assistants where a small
part of the wafer is carefully dipped in the wine, or

as a living sacrifice
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

to live and work to your praise and glory. AMEN
16
Final Hymn: TiS 161
1. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord!
Unnumbered blessings, give my spirit voice;
tender to me the promise of his word;
in God my Saviour shall my heart rejoice.
2. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his name!
Make known his might, the deeds his arm has done;
his mercy sure, from age to age the same;
his holy name - the Lord, the Mighty One.
3. Tell out, my soul, the greatness of his might!
Powers and dominions lay their glory by.
Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight,
the hungry fed, the humble lifted high.
4. Tell out, my soul, the glories of his word!
Firm is his promise, and his mercy sure.
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord
to children’s children and for evermore!
