Sentence: Do not fear. The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who

Prayer of Preparation:

As we gather as God's people let us pray together:

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,

all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden:

cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration

of your Holy Spirit,

that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy name,

through Christ our Lord. Amen.

God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and

The Confession

Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's

forgiveness.

Merciful God, our maker and our judge,

we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

and in what we have failed to do:

we have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves;

we repent, and are sorry for all our sins.

Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you

in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to

him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins,

strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life,

Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, you sent your Son into a world where the wheat must be

winnowed from the chaff and evil clings even to what is good: let the fire

of your Spirit purge us of all corruption, so that, purified, we may wait

eagerly for him whose coming is certain, whose Day draws near, your

Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of

the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Sing aloud, O daughter Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all

your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! 15

The LORD has taken away the

judgements against you, he has turned away your enemies. The king of

Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; you shall fear disaster no more. 16

On

that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your

hands grow weak. 17

The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who

gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in

his love; he will exult over you with loud singing 18

festival. I will remove disaster from you, so that you will not bear

reproach for it. 19

I will deal with all your oppressors at that time. And I

GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

7 John said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, ‘You

brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8Bear

fruits worthy of repentance. Do not begin to say to yourselves, “We have

Abraham as our ancestor”; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to

raise up children to Abraham. 9Even now the axe is lying at the root of

the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down

and thrown into the fire.’

10 And the crowds asked him, ‘What then should we do?’ 11In reply he

said to them, ‘Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has

none; and whoever has food must do likewise.’ 12Even tax-collectors

came to be baptized, and they asked him, ‘Teacher, what should we do?’

13He said to them, ‘Collect no more than the amount prescribed for

you.’ 14Soldiers also asked him, ‘And we, what should we do?’ He said to

them, ‘Do not extort money from anyone by threats or false accusation,

and be satisfied with your wages.’

15 As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning

in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah,

16John answered all of them by saying, ‘I baptize you with water; but

one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the

thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

17His winnowing-fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to

gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with

unquenchable fire.’

18 So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to

the people.

The Nicene Creed

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church.

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary

and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the Scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge

the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son

is worshipped and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION

{Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

We who are many are one body,

For we all share in the one bread.

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in

remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with

thanksgiving.

Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church

are invited to share communion with us.

Communion wine may be received:

(a) from the common cup from the first of the two Eucharistic Assistants.

(b) by intinction from the second of the Eucharistic Assistants where a small

part of the wafer is carefully dipped in the wine, or

(c) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant.

Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).
