Staff have warned that people with a disability could be forced to wait longer for help if a Brooklyn-based organisation trims its workforce as planned.
Workers at Yoorallas independent living centre have been told there could be job cuts ahead of a planned relocation to new premises in Tottenham.
Victorian Health Professionals Association secretary Craig McGregor said services, such as assistance with wheelchairs, would suffer as a result a claim denied by Yooralla.
Mr McGregor said if Yooralla went ahead with plans to sack three or more therapists as part of a restructure, it would be prioritising rebranding over frontline staff.
Health professionals at the independent living centre have provided a valuable service to the community for many years. Its a one-of- a-kind service for Victoria, he said.
If Yooralla wants to improve its public image, cutting services to clients is not the answer.
Staff argue that any cut to the number of therapists will lead to the turning away of clients who need advice and help with independence equipment.
They say a blowout in the waiting list for aids and equipment support will force people to find a private therapist, who could charge more than $200 for the first assessment.
If Yooralla is struggling financially, then maybe it should look at the $1.5 million it paid eight managers last year, Mr McGregor said.
But a Yooralla spokeswoman said the organisation was ensuring it was appropriately structured.
The intent is to ensure that we have a sustainable business that can continue to offer services into the future, she said.
The priority is to ensure that we are spending money in accordance with what we are budgeted to provide.
She said the independent living centre would be moved to a more accessible location, closer to public transport, by November.
The transition would remove duplication in administrative functions, the spokeswoman said.
There will be no changes in terms of service delivery to clients.
Based in Brooklyn and Blackburn, Yoorallas independent living centres provide trials and information on often-expensive assistive and communication technologies.
Therapists offer advice to help clients make informed choices about equipment most suitable for their needs.

Secondary schools in Melbournes west are being urged to embrace a program that aims to drive down the number of young people killed in car crashes.
The RoadSafe Westgate Community Road Safety Council is working to cut road fatalities and serious injuries caused by car crashes in Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham.
Chairman Jim Giddings said young drivers continued to be the most at-risk people on the wests roads. Young drivers comprise a small proportion of licensed drivers yet are substantially more involved and over-represented in road crashes, fatalities and injuries than other drivers, Mr Giddings said. Immediately after obtaining their licence, they are at the greatest risk.
Mr Giddings said RoadSafe Westgate was running two programs aimed at young drivers
Fit2Drive and Looking After Our Mates. He said both programs were endorsed by VicRoads and the TAC and were delivered in a school environment. But he said not all schools had taken up the option to deliver either of the programs to their students.
We still have a handful of secondary colleges that have yet accepted the challenge of participating, he said.
The Victorian Community Road Safety Partnership Program has provided funding to support RoadSafe Westgate in addressing road safety issues throughout the west.
For more details on Fit2Drive, call Gavin MacDonald on 0405 456 496. For more details on Looking After Our Mates, phone Mark Stone on 0409 384 619.

Food burnt, house damagedA man saved his elderly mother from their burning home in Victoria Street, Altona Meadows, last Monday morning. MFB crews from Altona and Laverton stations were called to the single-storey property at 8am and found a fire in the kitchen caused by the man leaving food unattended on the stove. Firefighters contained the fire to the stove top and ventilated the property, which was smoked-logged. There was no working smoke alarm in the home.

Australian musical icons Tex Perkins and Charlie Owen will bring their ragged brand of rock to Yarraville this Saturday night.
Perkins told the Star Weekly his musical relationship with Owen stretches back to the early 90s when they joined forces with Cold Chisel pianist and songwriter Don Walker as Tex, Don & Charlie.
Charlie and I have been playing for a good 24 years and we have done all sorts of things in that time, he said.
We have shared a lot of stages and we will be pulling together a collection of that material in a more bare, stripped back and dynamic way.
Perkins career has spanned from noisy mid-80s experimenters Thug and hard-edged pub rockers Beasts of Bourbon through the swampy blues swagger of The Cruel Sea to the dark, lilting country of his recent material with The Dark Horses and current outfit The Ape.
Reflecting on his 30 years playing a key role in Australian music, Perkins said he retains the same passion that drove his first foray into a band.
I guess there is always a core personality running through them all. Certainly an ironic sense of humour is always there in my songwriting, no matter what bands I have ended up with. Stylistically, Ive been prepared to do absolutely anything; an opportunity can present itself from anywhere and I have always taken it. My tendency is to say yes to things and jump in and see what happens.
That includes an upcoming performance with Nicky Bombas 26-piece Melbourne Ska Orchestra.
Three decades of fronting bands and riding the music business rollercoaster has given Perkins a taste of many of the industrys highs
and lows. He never set out with the intention of a lifelong career in music but has nevertheless navigated his way through to a point where he can reflect with some satisfaction.
When I started it was a way to have fun and get free beer, but I started having kids and somehow I have been feeding this enormous family, he said. I think Ive got this far by retaining my wonder and sense of adventure about it and keeping it creative and fun.
He concedes there were times when he was so disillusioned that if he could have done anything else he would have, but those days are long since passed.
Perhaps surprisingly, this feeling would hit him during the time of one of his greatest
commercial successes, fronting The Cruel Sea.There were these periods where it felt like
doing the same thing over and over again, he said. But he regained his passion by taking on new projects and throwing himself in disparate directions.
Turning 50 this year and still doing what he loves, Perkins reflects on the trajectories of artists and bands built up one year only to crash and burn the next. You cant keep defining yourself by whether Triple J is playing you or not, he says.
Tex Perkins and Charlie Owen perform at the Yarraville Club this Saturday night with support from former Magic Dirt frontwoman Adalita. Tickets $27-$62.

Family was the focus when this property was comprehensively renovated.
The double-fronted house features four generous double bedrooms in a floor plan that separates luxurious accommodation from living areas with conspicuous success.
Attention to detail has been paid to ensuring fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality.
From the Victorian-inspired detail on the architraves and ceiling to the polished floating spotted gum floorboards and
panelling, there is a sense of warmth throughout.
The flexible, north-facing lounge room has triptych windows with white plantation shutters. The room flows to living, dining and family spaces arranged around an open plan kitchen.
This modern designer-kitchen has quality European appliances, including a dual wall oven, gas cook top with a mirrored splashback, stone benches and a view over a home office or study zone.
Storage is in excess with large pantries and cupboards, and soft-close drawers giving a clean and polished finish.
The main bedrooms walk-in wardrobes and opulent en suite set the standard for the remaining three bedrooms surrounding a superb family bathroom.
The fully-tiled wet room features a tucked away doorless shower giving the room a sense of space.
Extra features include hydronic heating and 1.5kw solar panels.
An under-cover decked area, low-maintenance lawns and ample parking further enhance exceptional family environs.
Theres also a covered carport and two more off-road car spaces in the driveway.
With The Strand and parkland by the bay only a block away, this house is on prime real estate and close to shops, public transport, schools and sports parks.
