In order to complete an internship through IU East, you must meet the following qualifications:• Enrollment in a degree-seeking program at Indiana University East• Junior or Senior standing• GPA maintained at 2.5 or above• Participation in a resume critique by Career Services• Permission or approval from faculty mentor and/or Instructor of Record if

pursuing academic credit*Exceptions when appropriate

INTERNSHIP Checklist1. Contact your HSS Academic Advisor to inform them of your plans to complete an internship.

2. If you know of an internship, continue to step 5. If you are interested in earning Academic credit, continue to step 7.

3. If you are unsure about an internship, access CareerLink, IU East’sinternship database, to find current internship postings. Go toiue.edu/ucollege/career and log in with your IU username & passphrase. You can also search for internship opportunities in Indiana by visitingIndianaINTERN.net.

4. If you qualify for Indiana State Work Study funds, you may be eligible to complete a paid internship. Fill out the Internship Interest Form atsurverymonkey.com/s/HSSInternInterest. HSS will work with our network of internship partners and faculty members to determine if opportunities are available. Please allow us 5 business days to review your form.

5. Prepare a basic resume and cover letter. You must participate in a resume critique with Career Services.

6. After you have found an internship that meets your interests, apply! Many internships will require a resume and cover letter as part of the application process.

7. Interested in completing an internship for academic credit? Work with your Academic Advisor to determine if your internship will count toward yourdegree program. Upon approval, you will be assigned a faculty member, known as the “Instructor of Record”, who will oversee your internship.

8. Determine your supervisor at the internship location and set up a meeting. Plan to discuss your agreed upon work hours, projects/tasks andexpectations in the workplace.

9. Fill out an Internship Description form atiue.edu/internships/new-intern.php.

10. If you are not completing an internship for credit, be sure to stay in contact with Career Services if you need further assistance.
