    Department Overview

    Art programs in the individual schoolsvary according to the facilities of theschool, and the cultural backgroundsand needs of the students. Senior highschool introductory and advancedcourses offer broad exploratory and/orspecialized experiences to meetindividual interests of students. All artcourses address the AUHSD Contentand Performance Standards, the StateContent and Performance Standards,

    and the Visual and Performing ArtsState Framework. The courses aredesigned to encourage the developmentof Artistic Perception, CreativeExpression, Historical and CulturalContext, Aesthetic Valuing, andConnections, Relations andApplications. Academic skills arereinforced throughout the curriculum.All art programs infuse exciting andemerging technology to aid in delivering

    This class will be a compendium ofvisual and/or performing arts courseswhich will introduce students to arotation of music, art, drama, anddance.     This course explores the manyapplications of technology to createmultimedia productions. Students willuse technology as a tool to facilitatecritical thinking, organizing informationand demonstrate learning. Technologysuch as the computer, video camera,laser disc, CD Rom, scanner, QuickCam, and the internet will be used toproduce research based projects. Skill based instruction will focus on desktop

    publishing, computer graphics, artprograms, color theory, layout anddesign, sound mixing, videophotography, and report of informationwriting. The course develops studentawareness of the impact of multimediaon our society and examines careersavailable in this field. ($$)

    The primary purpose of this course isto develop aesthetic appreciation andknowledge of the diverse forms of 3Dmedia. The students will explorevarious processes using traditional andnon traditional methods of

    This course is designed to provide basicknowledge of photographic techniquesand studio/laboratory activities thatallow students to express their owncreativity and expand their perceptualability to appreciate the visualexperiences they encounter. Studentsdevelop a working knowledge of lightprinciples and camera controls.Through hands on experiences indarkroom laboratories, students will

    Ceramics 2 extends the studentstechnical skills and conceptualapproaches to clay and glazes. Focus ison craftsmanship, discipline, andoriginality. This course helps studentsto further develop aesthetic criteria ofceramic arts and to investigatepotential vocational aptitudes.Students sequentially develop moretechnical skills in their wheel andhand building process to demonstrate

    mastery in one or more areas of clayconstruction. Students experiment witha wider range of glaze effects andextend their knowledge of glazeformulation and application.     Department Overview

    The four career path clusters in theBusiness Education Career Path arebased on research and aligned withentry level career openings projectedby government and employmentagencies. The United StatesDepartment of Labor predicts thatemployment in business service

    industries will continue to grow at afast pace. These industries, which cutacross all four Business EducationCareer Path Clusters, includecomputer and data processingservices, market research, financialplanning and services, andmanagement consulting.     Virtual Enterprise is a simulatedbusiness that is set up and run bystudents to prepare them for workingin a real business environment.Students learn about economics micro and macroand itsrelationship to and impact onbusiness operation in the privateenterprise system. The studentsstudy supply and demand, theFederal Reserve System, taxation bylocal, state, and federal governments,business organizations, the stockmarket, and internationaltransactions. The students determinethe nature of their business, itsproducts and services, itsmanagement and structure, and

    learn the daily operations of abusiness under the guidance of aconsultant, with the support of a realbusiness partner.
