Dear Parents,
It has been a busy four day week with the EDSA Revolution Day holiday last Monday.Throughout this week students have been engaged in their course registration process forthe next school year. The HS Course Offerings book for 2010-2011 which is available at theISM website www.ismanila.org , clearly lays out all the course descriptions on offer in thehigh school and the likely pathways that students can take to meet ISM graduation and IBDiploma requirements. Please take time to study the courses on offer at ISM for next yearand how they relate to your child’s education plan.
Next week ISM hosts IASAS ART and Music. Tonight and Saturday, via special IASAS previewperformances you can get a glimpse of what amazing talent we have here at ISM in the fieldof Dance, Drama, Forensics and Debate. Next Friday the IASAS Art and Music Festivalpromises to be one of the finest concerts ever staged at the ISM Fine Arts Theater. Ticketsare free and are available form the ATCA office.
We had a fantastic turn out at the last HS Parent Coffee and I am hoping that it will be thesame again on Tuesday March 9 when our single agenda item to discuss will be “TheInternet, Your Child and Social Networking Sites”. We have invited MS parents along to thisevent as well and Fred Biggar our HS IT Curriculum Director asked those present at our lastHS Parent Coffee meeting to do some homework for this meeting. I hope you are doing it!
March “madness” will bring the following: grade 9 geography trips to Taal, IASAS Art andMusic, HS Parent Coffee, Pre-IASAS sports exchanges, the end of third quarter, grade 12 IB“mock” exams and the EARCOS teacher conference, hosted this year at ISM, followed by awell deserved Spring Break starting with an early release on Thursday March 25.

ATTENTION: CHANGE IN PROCEDUREDear Parents:
Every year we have to deal with the administrative burden of trying to collect from parents the $1000 Re-enrollmenDeposit. This is difficult for many parents, especially those whose fees are paid by the sponsoring company, and more
difficult still for the school trying to collect from parents, especially those who are not sure of their circumstances.
This year we shall try something different. There will be no re-enrollment deposit. Instead, we shall expect adeparting families to complete the WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM on or before May 15 th. Failure to dso will lead to a deduction of $1,000.00 from the Facilities Upgrade Deposit.
As I am sure you understand, we at school face considerable pressure from families applying to enter their children intISM. We have to establish the May 15th deadline in order for us to be fair to those families on our waitlist. The earlier yocan tell us that you are leaving school, the sooner we can provide clear answers to in-coming families.

Dear Parents:
First of all, we would like to thank you for your continuing support of International School Manila, Inc. (th ‘Corporation’). The Corporation is a non-stock, non-profit membership organization whose business, property, and affairare managed by a Board of Trustees consisting of ten (10) Members.
Our By-laws give you a central role in the governance of the Corporation, with five of the ten Board seats beinallocated to Associate Members. This year, there will be two (2) vacancies from the rank of Associate Membership. Wit
this in mind, we seek your nominations for these posts, which must be submitted to the Corporate Secretary (at RoomP089, Administration Office, ISM Campus) on or before 08 April 2010.
All Associate Member candidates, who are members in good standing, will be interviewed by the Committee oTrustees, and those whose skill-sets and profiles best meet the needs of the School will be endorsed to the community foelection.
Voting may be done in advance of, or at, the Annual General Meeting (AGM). From 11 May to 19 May 2010, ballot box will be established in the administrative office area near the Corporate Secretary’s office for those who wish tovote in advance of the AGM. Proxy Forms which you submitted at the beginning of this year (enclosed in your EnrollmenPacket) will be used solely for attendance purposes and to determine presence of quorum at the AGM, and cannot be useto vote.
The AGM will be held on 20 May 2010 in the Fine Arts Theater, and members of the community who have novoted should cast their ballots at that meeting. Results will be announced as soon as the assigned auditing firm haconcluded the count.
Prospective candidates for the Board should read the attached nomination and election procedure and guidelines ifull. The nomination and election procedure and guidelines may also be viewed at the ISM website (www.ismanila.org).

NOMINATION / ELECTION GUIDELINESFor Associate Member Candidates
1. Our By-laws have clarified the function of the Board of Trustees (the “Board”) and the relationship it enjoys with the SuperintendenEssentially, the responsibility of the Board is to ensure that the School remains true to its Vision, Mission and Core Beliefs, that thCorporation’s financial and accounting reporting systems are appropriately managed and audited and that the Corporation is legalsecure. The Board hires (and evaluates) a Superintendent who is responsible for all day-to-day decisions in the School.
2. It follows from this that we are hoping to find Trustees who understand that their work will be focused on policy and strategy as weas financial scrutiny rather than any involvement in the operations of the School. We shall certainly be looking for Trustees with professional background in financial matters, but also for those with significant leadership experience in managementadministration, education, diplomacy and law. Clearly it would be advantageous for candidates to have worked on boards before anwho thus understand the role of the Trustee in big-picture thinking.
3. In a bird’s eye view, our By-laws require that the Board shall consist of ten (10) Members of the Corporation, five (5) of whom shabe elected from the rank of the Sustaining and Honorary Members and five (5) of whom shall be elected from the rank of th
Associate Members. Following our By-laws, two (2) Sustaining or Honorary Member Trustees and another two (2) Associate MembeTrustees shall retire by the end of the third year of its application (i.e. SY 2009-2010). Thus, at the 20 May 2010 Annual GeneraMeeting (AGM), the Members shall elect two (2) Trustees out of the nominees from the rank of the Associate Membership.
4. All candidates must, of course, be Members of good standing in the Corporation – that is, in the case of Associate Members, bcurrent in terms of fee payments. There are, as well, certain criteria established in the Corporation Code that could conceivablexclude candidates from standing (please refer to Section 3, Article 3 of the By-laws). Associate Member Candidates will, by thesignature on this document, declare that (a) they are Members in good standing of the Corporation and (b) individuals who are noin breach of criteria established in the Corporation Code.
5. Candidates from the rank of Associate Members must submit their certificates of candidacy to the Committee on Trustees (th “Committee”), through the Corporate Secretary’s office at P089, Administration Office, ISM Campus, by 08 April 2010 whicconsist of the following:a) Resume – with appropriate bio data and covering personal and professional background; andb) Letter of Intent indicating that the candidate is an Associate Member and outlining the individual’s qualities and skills that will b
relevant to the ISM Board of Trustees.
6. From 09 April 2010 up to 23 April 2010 , each candidate shall engage in a dialogue with the Board’s Committee on Trustee
whose task is to review and recommend candidates coming from the rank of Associate Members who meet the foregoing criteriaand whose portfolios of skills are best equipped to fill vacancies in the Board.
7. The Committee will recommend candidates to the current Board of Trustees, no later than 27 April 2010. The Board will convey thendorsement to the community at large, in advance of the election.
8. Those candidates who do not receive the endorsement of the Committee may choose to withdraw from the election and should dso, in writing, to the Corporate Secretary on or before 27 April 2010. Candidates who do not receive the endorsement but still wisto stand for election will be included in the Final List of Candidates that will be published on 06 May 2010 to the community.
9. To guide the community in their choice, the Committee will also send out the resumes and letters of intent of all candidates, apreviously submitted. This is the only campaign information that will be made publicly available.
10. Candidates must undertake not to publish, or otherwise disseminate or encourage or allow others to publish on their behalf, anadditional information that may encourage community members to vote in a particular way. It is not in the interest of the School –or the candidates - for there to be electioneering of any kind. It is not possible for the School to filter out anonymous text messageor e mails or blog sites, but we would hope that the community-at-large will understand that those people who engage in sucactivities are behaving contrary to the best interests of the School.
11. On 11 May 2010 , a seven (7) working day period for the early casting of votes will begin. This replaces the proxy system and designed to encourage maximum participation by the community. Ballot boxes will be located in the Administration Office.
12. On 20 May 2010, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Members will be held at which reports from the Board and Superintendenwill be presented. This will also be an opportunity for all Members who have not yet cast their votes to select Trustees for the newBoard. Results of the election will be announced on that same evening.

IASAS ART EXHIBITION OPENING & FESTIVAL CONCERT: FRIDAY MARCH 5TH
Dear ISM Community Members,
The IASAS Art and Music Festival is fast approaching and planning is well underway for what will be a truly special ISM communityevent.
The feature event of the 3 day festival of Art and Music is the Art Exhibition Opening and Festival Concert on Friday evening at theISM Fine Arts Theatre.The Art exhibit is from 6pm to 7pm in the Fine Arts Theatre Gallery and you will have the opportunity to view a wide range of artpieces and talk with the IASAS art delegates about their individual works and the motivation/inspiration behind the design and artisticprocess.Immediately following the art opening the doors will be open for the Festival Music Concert featuring the IASAS Music delegates fromBand, Strings, Piano and Choir under the guidance of guest conductors, Mr Jerry Luckhardt (band), Mr Hernan Constantino (strings)and Mr Joel Navarro (choir).
ISM community members can get tickets for this event from the Fine Arts office, ATAC office or at the door on Friday March 5th.
Tickets are free and will go fast for this event so please get in early to your secure seats to what will be a memorable art and musicexperience of the highest quality.ISM families who are housing a visiting IASAS delegate will get 2 tickets when they receive their guest housing information the weekleading up to the festival.

The Alex Cabagnot Fundamentals Camp is made specific for GIRLS only. The camp will start on May 6, 13, 20 and 27,2010 and is open to all Grade 8 to 11 GIRLS.
Welcome to Alex Cabagnot Fundamentals Camp- Coach Alex Cabagnot has established and works hand in hand with theEdge Basketball International Camp summer of 2008. The Edge Basketball International is in the United States located iWest Covina, California .
Coach Alex Cabagnot offers you his fully-integrated program and training principles for strength and speed. Theimprovement of your athletic abilities will directly correlate to improved play on the basketball court. In order tobecome the best basketball player or team that you can become, strength training - along with speed, quickness,footwork, core training, and more - is a must
This camp is a unique program that will build and refine fundamentals in the various facets of the game of basketball.Improve your offensive skills: shooting, guard play and post play. Perimeter and front court specifics, three-point andmedium range shooting techniques, playing without the ball, basic ball handling skills, creating your shot, scoring off thedribble and passing transition skills, defence and team play will be emphasized. Players will compete against each othe
based on age, skill, and size, and all will benefit from being trained by Coach Alex Cabagnot.
This camp will also teach players how to lead with intelligence, eliminate mistakes, develop positive habits of play, andgive their team the best chance to win.
