Tips for taking HP exams Rather than emphasize simple memorization, HP exams attempt to assess whether you have the knowledge
and skills that a networking professional requires on the job. Therefore, some questions feature exhibits or
scenarios. As you see, you will have an average of just less than two minutes per question. Some questions will
take much less time, and some will require a bit more. If allowed by the systems, you might want to answer the
questions about which you are sure first and then move back to the others.
Before you do answer a question, take the time to read the question and all of the options carefully. If the
question indicates that it features an exhibit, study the exhibit and reread the question. Make sure to select the
answer that correctly responds to the question that is asked—not simply an answer that includes some correct
information.
If the question asks for more than one answer, remember to select each correct answer. You do not receive
partial credit for a partially correct answer.

Which action must you take to enable the controller to discover the AP shown in the exhibit?
a. Enable AP discovery globally on the controller.
b. Enable Layer 3 discovery on the controller and configure the correct option on your DHCP
server.
c. Enable discovery on the controller’s Internet port.
d. Configure VLANs on the controller to match the VLANs on the switch port.
13
Figure 1: Exhibit for question 5
Conclusion HP wishes you success in the HP ExpertOne Program and in passing the exam for which you are preparing.
Appendix: Answers to sample questions This section provides answers and explanations for the sample questions.
1. You have enabled public access control on a Virtual Service Community (VSC) on an HP MSM765 zl
Mobility Controller. Which feature will not be available for this VSC?
a. Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA)
b. Egress VLAN
c. Wireless security filters
d. Wireless Mobility
Explanation: When you enable access control on a VSC, all traffic from wireless users in the VSC is
tunneled to the controller. This architecture enables you to configure certain features on that VSC but
prevents you from configuring others. One of the features that is not available is Wireless Mobility, so
answer d is correct. The features in the other answers are available. You can see a complete list of
features allowed for a public access-controlled VSC in the Management and Configuration Guide for
the MSM controllers (available through http://www.hp.networking.com/support).
2. You have installed an HP MSM422 AP. Its Power, Info, and Ethernet LEDs continue to blink in
sequence from left to right for several minutes. What is occurring?
a. The AP cannot obtain an IP address.
b. The AP cannot discover its controller.
c. The connected switch is not transmitting adequate power using PoE.
d. The controller is in the process of configuring the AP with the correct settings.
Explanation: The LED sequence associated with obtaining an IP address is the Power LED blinking
slowly, so answer a is incorrect.
If the AP does not have another power source and its switch is not transmitting PoE power, the AP
would not power up at all and now LEDs would blink. Therefore, answer c is incorrect.
When the AP is communicating with a discovered controller, its Power LED stays on while the Info and
Ethernet LEDs blink alternately. The question does not describe this behavior, so answer d is incorrect.
The LED sequence described in the question occurs when the AP attempts to discover its controller. If
this sequence continues for several minutes, the AP is having difficulty discovering its controller, so
answer b is correct.
3. The HP MSM760 Access Controller shown in the exhibit is operating at its default discovery settings.

HP0-Y44: Implementing HP Wireless Networks
Exam Preparation Guide / July 2012
Figure 2: Exhibit for question 5
Explanation: By default, the MSM controllers only discover APs on their LAN port. In this network, as
displayed in the exhibit, the AP contacts the controller on its Internet port. Therefore, you must enable
discovery on the controller’s Internet port, and answer c is correct.
AP discovery is enabled globally by default on MSM controllers, so answer a is incorrect.
In the network displayed in the exhibit, the AP has a Layer 2 connection with the controller. You do
not need to configure Layer 3 discovery, so answer b is incorrect.
Answer d does not respond to the question. The AP broadcasts its discovery requests on VLAN 10,
which the switch floods on VLAN 10 ports, including the port that connects to the controller. You can
configure VLANs on the controller in a variety of ways, but this configuration does not affect its ability
to discover this AP.
