The HP Color LaserJet 5500 was releasedback in November 2002, as the replacementfor the HP Color LaserJet 8500 and 8550. TheColor LaserJet 5500 is based on a similarengine as the Color LaserJet 4600 only widerto accommodate the A3 paper this tabloidprinter handles.

While the HP Color LaserJet 8550 printerseries was based around a multipass enginethat could print 24ppm in monochrome andonly 6ppm color. The Color LaserJet 5500was a little slower when printing mono-chrome, 21ppm but it could also print 21ppm

in color. When HP released the HP5550 theyincreased the overall print speed to 27ppm forboth monochrome and color.

The toner cartridges for the HP ColorLaserJet 5500 are similar in design as the HP4600 and the remanufacturing procedures aresimilar as well. The black cartridge (C9730A)yields 13,000 pages at 5% and sells for$225.99 while the cyan cartridge (C9731A),yellow cartridge (C9731A), and the magentacartridge (C9733A) yield 12,000 pages andsells for $315.99.
