Wouldn’t it be great to be able to post a review on your mobile device, about that great meal you just had? Wouldn’t it be even better to read other customer’s reviews, while searching online for a company to fix that leaky roof? This and more is possible with Google Places. Google Places is a free service that allows you to read, post, and share reviews about every local business, their products, and more importantly their services. In this next example, we are searching Google for a dentist in Wickenburg Arizona, because we have a painful toothache. The Google Local listings are typically listed at the top of Google’s search results and we can quickly see that the first listing has 4 reviews, the second listing has 2 reviews, and all the others have none.

Because Dr. Kirk is listed first and because he has the most reviews, chances are high that you would click on his listing and visit his Google Places page.
Here we see some basic information about Dr. Kirk including his address, phone number, hours of operation, and his location on a map. If we scroll down a little further, we can read other people’s reviews of Dr. Kirk and his services.
Reading these reviews, we see that 3 of the reviews are positive, and 1 was negative. In the first review we see that “Roy” left a review stating that Dr. Kirk has always found a way to get him scheduled in an emergency. Because our toothache is really painful, we will pick up the phone right away and schedule our appointment.

What Type of Local Businesses Are Listed in Google Places? There are millions of local businesses throughout North America listed in Google Places, for every type of local business imaginable. Here you can read, share, or post your own reviews. What is the Benefit of Posting Reviews? To start with, if you were impressed with the level of service you received from a local business, you can help that local business get more customers. On the other hand, if you were unhappy with the level of service and/or a product you purchased, you would want to warn your friends and others in your community about the business. Google Places has become the interactive yellow pages of 21st century and it is available 24/7 on your desktop, laptop, and even your mobile devices. How Easy is it to Post a Review in Google Places? If you already have a Google account it is very easy. If you don’t have a Google account it just takes a few seconds to create one. With a Google account you will be able to access other Google services such as G-‐Mail, Google Plus, and many more of the advanced features of Google Search.

Google can typically identify your location based upon your computer’s internet connection (IP address), this makes it easier for you and may show some of the businesses closest to you. Take a moment now and read some of the reviews of these local businesses. You can leave your own reviews at this point, or continue on the next page for more information on how to leave a review.

3: How to Post a Review for a Specific Business In this example we want to post a review about Mills Painting, located in Wickenburg Arizona. In the search box we would type in the name of the business, city, state, and zip into the search box and press the [Search] button.
We will get a page with the results:
We were very impressed with the level of service we received, so we will rank this business with 5-‐stars.
