Read their full report at: www. healthwatchcambridgeshire.co.uk

In the last year, they have listened to more than 4,000 people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to find out what is important to them, see report notes below.

Notes from their Annual Report for 2017-18 They challenged local NHS and social care services to improve access for people with sensory and learning disabilities. Our Accessible Information as Standard report found that they are not always offering information to disabled people in a format they can use, even though this is the law. Helped mental health commissioners re-design mental health services to better meet the needs of young people. We talked to young people through our ‘Being Happy, Being Me’ and ‘Minding Us’ projects to let commissioners know what young people wanted to help them stay mentally well. Worked with patients, carers and the local health commissioners to improve information for people leaving hospital. Developed a new toolkit to help local Patient Participation Groups at GP surgeries better involve people in improving services. Called for improvements in tongue tie division services for babies. This is now being included in the Better Births Plan for maternity services. Continued to raise your concerns both locally and nationally to help influence the outcome of consultations and service changes. Continued to work with our 35 fantastic volunteers, who have helped us listen to stories and visit local services.

Safe Return Home from Hospital We are working with TimeBanking UK to form a Database of members that would be willing to check on someone that has been in hospital for a while. To make sure they come home to the makings of a cuppa and at least a sandwich. If you live alone, you also need to be on the Database so that there’s no time lost when help is actually needed. Avoid getting home to a cold house and nothing to eat or drink. A stay in hospital may happen to anyone young or old. Consequently, it’s good to have the TimeBank safety net in place – just in case. What could be better than having a friend who you like and trust – it works both ways. Whoever goes in hospital, the other person makes sure they have everything they need when they return. With enough people joining this, the co-ordinator will pair people up to get to know each other or maybe another member is already your friend. Things that maybe needed are companionship, shopping, making sure they are safe and warm with a drink in reach. Making telephone calls, contacting friends and relatives, cooking a meal, collecting prescriptions, transport to and from the GP and maybe support during ‘care in the home’ visits. We have lists for all different tasks as it saves emailing everyone, every time – this would just be another list of members that may need help or are happy to be asked to help when needed. As always, no pressure.

Contact the Co-ordinator 07590909057 to discuss further and register your interest.

Please tell your friends and neighbours about TimeBank. Everyone could

benefit in some way or another by being a TimeBanker. The list of skills available is never-ending. Whether you are too busy, can’t do or can no longer do something, we

can help. Hours can be exchanged for just time on a phone call to reduce isolation. Everyone is welcome to join the TimeBank. There’s just a simple registration form

and no fee to pay!

One unwanted item can be a joy for someone else! A Big Thank you to those that have already donated.

If you are having a clear-out of a cupboard, shed, loft or room - to

modernize, spring clean, declutter or to free up space, consider the things

you are about to throw away. “Can this make someone else happy?” “Can I

donate this and let someone else enjoy it?”. This month we’ve had a Large

Mirror that has made another member very happy, two aerials found a new home, plus a member is

snuggled up on an extremely soft sofa and chair.

We still have a D-shaped mirror and a maroon 2 seater. Donating items to TimeBank is a win-win

situation. It makes you feel good that you have cleared the clutter and you have helped someone

else at the same time.
