Synergy across my 3 products
My documentary, TV advert poster and newspaper double page spread are all linked together stylis(cally; including the same/similar images and font and colour scheme in each task, which portrays it as a clear ‘package’. For example, in my double page spread I have made an image by taking a screenshot of a clip from the documentary. By inser(ng this image into the double page spread I have achieved synergy, which is a very effec(ve technique to use when crea(ng media texts as it creates a sort of press kit.

Producing images for my double page spread from the footage of my documentary
I then placed the image in the border of my double page spread.

These two images are taken from the same photo shoot and I have used these both in my ancillary tasks. Synergy is about one text reinforcing another, they link together to adver(se a text. By using two pictures of my mother wearing the same clothes and a similar shot she is easily recognized by the poten(al audience. For example, if someone sees the advert on a billboard and then read the ar(cle they will automa(cally recognize Anjum.
My ancillary tasks are also effec(ve in construc(ng the representa(on of Anjum. For example, I have represented her in a home environment which connotes Anjum as a warm and loving person. The colours in the image also reflect this, for example orange and yellow signify warmth, happiness and enthusiasm. The picture of Anjum in the garden also connotes a well groomed and stylish women, as her hair is neat and her clothes are fashionable, thereby exposes another facet of her life. This shows a dual nature of her character, a hard working women and a full (me mother.

The combina(on of my newspaper advert and my documentary
• They are very effec(ve as the newspaper advert demonstrates that the documentary is only about one individual because the image used is my mother’s face (simple white background ensuring our focus is on her). Also, including the series name on the TV advert immediately links it to the documentary voiceover which I produced for the opening of my documentary, where I men(on my mother being both ‘ordinary and extraordinary’.

The representa(on of Anjum in the image where she is in the garden links to one of Richard Dyer’s
Typography’s ‘Re-‐presen(ng’ • As I explained in the previous slide that the image that I included in
the newspaper double page spread is represen(ng Anjum. It could be linked to one of Dyer’s typography’s re-‐presen(ng which argues that media language in a media text conveys a representa(on through conven(ons of camera work, mise en scene, ligh(ng and edi(ng. For example, the colouring of the image is part of the ligh(ng, and the garden is part of the mise en scene (which each have a meaning e.g conveying warmth and a homely feel and revealing Anjum’s character). Thereby the image of my mother for my newspaper double page spread is massively supported by one of Dyer’s typography ‘re-‐presenta(on’ as the textual analysis helps the audience understand how the representa(on in a text conveys meaning.
