How to undercut a door for installation with
transitional moldings
Tools You’ll Need
• Vibratory saw
• Measuring Tape
• Pencil
• Laminate Flooring
• Underlayment
Step One: Tidy Up
• Clean up around designated area
Step 2: Make Your Mark
• Take into account the thickness of your flooring with underlayment.
• Put a piece of wood over your underlayment and make a mark on the wall of where you will cut
Step 3: Cut your Area
• Using a vibratory saw simply cut over top of your line
Step 4: Finish Your Floor
• Once your doorcut is ready you can proceed to your flooring installation
Step 5: Start with one Plank
• Place one laminate floor against doorcut
• You will see a gap that lies between the two rooms through the doorway
Step 6: Measure
• Measure the width of the gap and cut that measurement from a full plank
• Molding Sizes can vary. make
sure to take into account
the molding size and some
room for an expansion.
Step 7:Measure the Length
• Measure the length you will need to trim off each sides of your cut strip. Be sure to leave ¼” extra on each side of the plank so the plank stays in securely.
Step 8: Line it up
Making these marks will help you to CLICK the planks together.
Line the cut plank up to the doorway and mark where it should be installed.
Step 9: Click together
• Click your cut strip with your full plank lining it up with the marks you made in step 8
Step 10: Simply Slide
• Simply slide your plank and strip underneath door cut until it will not go any further
Step 11: Install Moldings
• Install your transitional pieces in the gap that was left for them once your flooring is installed under the doorcut.
• Remember to leave an expansion gap
