farmer to herd a livestock. Overtime this dog is also use as a guard dog and

Rottweiler breed become notorious for their ability to injure or even kill

human and in some country Rottweiler is considered illegal to keep. This dog is

not suitable for a first time dog owner.

Despite the bad reputation and the intimidating looks, Rottweiler is actually a

very smart and obedience pet if trained well from puppies. Even a problematic

Origin

The Rottweiler is probably descended from the Italian Mastiff, which

accompanied the herds that the Romans brought with them when they

invaded Europe. During the Middle Ages, it was used as a herder, as a guard,

messenger dog, draught dog, and for police work. It was bred in the German

town of Rottweiler in Wurttemberg. Practically extinct in the 1800's, the breed

population began a comeback in the early twentieth century due to the efforts

of enthusiastic breeders centered in Stuttgart.

In Germany on January 13th 1907, the DRK (Deutscher Rottweiler-Klub

(German Rottweiler Club) was established. Shortly after on April 27, 1907, the

SDRK - Süddeutscher Rottweiler-Klub (South German Rottweiler Club) was

formed, which later became the IRK (International Rottweiler Club). The

Rottweiler standard was then set. The breed was first recognized by the AKC in

1931. Some of the Rottweiler's talents include: tracking, herding, watchdog,

guarding, search and rescue, guide dogs for the blind, police work, carting,

competitive obedience, and schutzhund.

The Rottweiler has a

muscular, massive, powerful

body. The head is broad with

a rounded forehead. The

muzzle is well-developed.

The teeth meet in a scissors

bite. The wide nose is black.

The lips are black and inside

the mouth dark. The

medium sized eyes are dark

and almond-shaped.

Some of Rottweilers have

been known to have blue

eyes or one blue and one brown eye. This trait is not recognized in the show

world and does not meet the breed’s written standard. The ears are triangular,

carried forward. The tail is customarily docked. Note: docking tails is illegal in

most parts of Europe. Rear dewclaws are often removed. The chest is broad

and deep. The coat is short, hard and thick. It is black with rust to mahogany

markings on the cheeks and muzzle, paws and legs. A red color with brown

markings also exists. There is a deficiency in the hair gene making the coloring

a lighter red.

German Rottweiler vs. American Rottweiler - some claim there are variations

of Rotties, the German Rottweiler and the American Rottweiler. German

Rotties are said to be shorter, stockier and have a bigger blockier head, and

American Rotties are said to be taller and leggier without as blocky a head.

Others claim a Rottweiler is a Rottweiler and there is no such thing as a

German Rottie. Some who have stated this argument have said, "a German

Rottweiler is one born in Germany and an American Rottweiler is born in

America." In any case, there are breeders breeding for the German Rottweiler

look, which goes outside the AKC standard, while others are breeding for the

American Rottweiler look, sticking to, or closer to, the AKC standard.

Temperament

The Rottie is powerful, calm,

trainable, courageous, and

devoted to their owner and

family. Loyal and protective, they

will defend their family fiercely if

needed, seemingly immune to

pain. Serious, even-tempered,

brave, confident and courageous,

this breed needs an owner who is

strong minded, calm, but firm and

able to handle their massive size.

A docile, natural guard dog with a laid-back, reliable temperament.

They are highly intelligent and have proven their worth beyond question in

police, military, and customs work over many centuries and can be trained for

competitive obedience.

Because of their size, training should begin when the dog is a small puppy. This

breed needs a lot of leadership and socialization. They will not be happy

confined to a kennel or backyard. The objective in training this dog is to

achieve a pack leader status. It is a natural instinct for a dog to have an order in

their pack.

When we humans live with dogs, we become their pack. The entire pack

cooperates under a single leader. Lines are clearly defined and rules are set.

You and all other humans MUST be higher up in the order than the dog. That is

the only way your relationship can be a success.

When the Rottweiler receives consistent leadership and is trained, it will be a

good playmate for the children. It will accept cats, other dogs, and other

household pets, as long as the dog has been socialized well and have owners

who assert their authority over the dog.

Friends and relatives of the family are normally enthusiastically welcomed.

Strangers to whom the dog senses bad intentions from can get no further than

the sidewalk.

CHAPTER II : How to Train Rottweiler on Daily Basis

Rottweiler is very loyal to the family and very eager to please the owner,

therefore Rottweiler is a perfect guarding dog. Given a herding mental, this

dog is prone to be a dominance aggressive dog, this is why you have to became

more dominance and standup as a pack leader for him. As I already mention

before, Rottweiler is a very smart breed and respond very well to obedience

training. You need to give a full dedication to train this dog and give him a

consistence daily exercise and socialization.

Remember that your goal is not to let the “breed mode” take over your dog

instead you are nurturing the “dog mode” which is more balance and easier to

train. The "breed mode" can lead your Rottweiler to aggression, barking or

even biting problems that everyone don't want to get from this breed. Below

are the daily needs that you should give your Rottweiler to keep him from

entering the “breed mode”

Exercise

Daily exercise is a must for every dog to drain the energy and keep the “breed

mode” low. Being a working dog, Rottweiler is given with a very strong body,

high stamina and agility to allow them to do any kind of work assignment like

guarding, herding or being a blind person guide. That is why you need to give

this dog a minimum 30 minutes walk or jog to keep them in a low energy. This

dog is also like to play ball fetching as an exercise. Just make sure he gets a lot

of outdoor activity and meeting other dog.

Discipline

Never let your dog become out of control everywhere. You must become a

firm a strong leader that your dog can trust and willing to listen. Give him a

clear boundary and limitation inside and outside the house. Rottweiler is very

smart, so it won’t take long to make them understand which is allowed and

which is not.

Affection

Every time your Rottweiler accomplishes training, give him affection by

praising him or treat him with a snack. Rottweiler respond really well when

using a food as a reward.

CHAPTER III : Pit Bull Training Tips

To make your Rottweiler a perfect companion for you and your family, you should pay attention to these tips below:

1. Owner with a strong leadership is a must. Rottweiler bred to lead a herd, so they tend to make more effort to take control, so only owner with a strong and firm leadership can lead this dog. So make sure you train your leadership as a priority.

2. Start socialization with human and other dog from puppy. Train your Rottweiler to get use to be around human especially your friend and family. Also teach your friend and family to not be afraid of the Rottweiler since this dog can sense fear and fear can trigger their behavior if not socialized properly.

3. Start obedience train from puppy. Rottweiler can be a great companion only if they obey the owner properly. Naughty Rotty is a big NO NO!

4. Make your Rottweiler work before giving the food. For example you can command your dog to sit or any other tricks. You must also wait until he calms down before putting down the bowl to prevent food aggression.

5. Teach your dog to bark and quiet on command. This is really useful to control your Rottweiler as a guard dog.
