Abuseisadifficultandemotionaltopictotalkabout.Oftenpeoplearefearful,humiliatedorashamedwhentheyfindthemselvesinanabusiverelationship.Ittakescourageforpeopleexperiencingabusetoreachoutandstarttheconversationtofindthesupporttheyneed.
Remember, no one deserves to be abused or mistreated. Consider telling:
•Someoneyoutrust
•Someonewhowilllistenandsupportyou
Who can you tell?
•Familymemberorrelative
•Friendorneighbour
•Lawyeroraccountant
•Staffatacommunitycentre,seniors’centreorseniors’group
•Clergy/faithleader
•Doctor

Considerbringingafriendwithyouwhenyoudecidetospeakwithsomeoneabouttheabuse.
How to start the conversation:
•Pickatimewhenyouwillhaveprivacyanddonotfeelrushed.
•Chooseaplacewhereyou are safeandwon’tbeinterrupted.
•Say“Ihaveaseriousproblemthathasbeenhappeningfor....”[mentionthelengthoftime].
