Call your local police staon for informaon or to report abuse. Abuseisadifficultandemotionaltopictotalkabout.Oftenpeoplearefearful,humiliatedorashamedwhentheyfindthemselvesinanabusiverelationship.Ittakescourageforpeopleexperiencingabusetoreachoutandstarttheconversationtofindthesupporttheyneed.

Remember, no one deserves to be abused or mistreated. Consider telling:

•Someonewhowilllistenandsupportyou

Who can you tell?

•Familymemberorrelative

•Friendorneighbour

•Lawyeroraccountant

•Staffatacommunitycentre,seniors’centreorseniors’group

Considerbringingafriendwithyouwhenyoudecidetospeakwithsomeoneabouttheabuse.

How to start the conversation:

•Pickatimewhenyouwillhaveprivacyanddonotfeelrushed.

•Chooseaplacewhereyou are safeandwon’tbeinterrupted.

•Say“Ihaveaseriousproblemthathasbeenhappeningfor....”[mentionthelengthoftime].

Describe what has been happening.
