STEPS IN CASE STUDY PREPARATION
THE MODULE
Step 1: Identify the Environmental Management Principles
• Examples include: Avoid, facilitate, account, enable, disclose, punish, enhance, mobilize, compensate, conserve, mitigate, enforce, allocate, share, remediate, contribute, minimize, protect, monitor, trade
• Decide the driver principle and the supporting principles
THE MODULE
Step 4: Write a Narrative
• The narrative should have the following components
– A background to the case capturing the environmental principles
– The main narrative introducing the various resources, asking the students to read/watch them and describing how the resource fits into the case
THE MODULE
Step 5: Prepare Discussion and Assignment Questions
• The discussion and assignment questions should be of the following type:
1. Knowledge-based Question : Should test whether the student has grasped the broader facts surrounding the case
2. Analysis- based Question: Should test whether the student can analyze the pros and cons of the management decisions taken by various stakeholders in the case and whether the student can come up with alternate scenarios and how, in hindsight, the better decisions could have been taken
3. Application-based Question: Find another case study where a similar principle has been applied and give a critique on it
