    CLAT STRATEGY

Legal Reasoning and AptitudeRefer to the entire Legal section in the CLAT Book (Part A)

This will be the most important part of your CLAT prep. Start right after yoursemester exams as this section is meant to be done calmly over a period of time and

    not in a hurry.

You should have a basic idea of our Constitutional and Legal Framework (A.3 toA.74). Just quickly read everything sincerely and you should be done. Shouldnt take

much of your time (barely a week). Just before your CLAT you can go through it

    again.

Criminal Law and Civil Law (A.75 to A.212) are the two basic categories of Law.Most of your Legal Reasoning section in your CLAT paper will focus on them. Hence

you shall dedicate a considerable amount of time on just understanding the various

    concepts in them.

Legal Terms and Maxims (A.215 to A.224) is a big headache. But you have to do itnevertheless. To make life easier for yourself try doing one per day. Dont just read it

and leave it. Try to think of a situation or a line in which that maxim could be used. The Ready reckoner is meant to provide you with a quick recap. Once youre done with all of these, test yourself!

General KnowledgeG.K section in the CLAT Book is optional. In case you want to do it,

General Awareness should be enough. Ignore the rest. This is fine because about 80% of the

CLAT G.K section asks you questions based on current affairs. Static G.K is too vast and has

too little weightage for you to focus on. So, hopefully theyre questions you know the

    answers to.

Reading the newspaper once every day is a must. You have no other option but to dothis. Focus on International and National sections of the news (this should include the

latest legal, political, economic, literary, science and technology developments). Keep

    a tab on sports too.

Apart from this dont worry about this section much now. After your second semexams are done, you can start reading a good General Knowledge book, like

    Manorama for example.

Also there are online G.K sites that you can refer to before the CLAT So you job is only to read the newspaper for now. Do it even if you dont like it!!!

Logical ReasoningGrab yourself a copy of Logical Reasoning by R.D Sharma. It covers

most of the basic stuff in that one is required to know in logical reasoning.

Theres a Logical Reasoning section in the CLAT book too (Part E). Do it for some different

    sort of questions.

Sometimes the CLAT sadists will give you weird questions that really test your Logical

ability. Nothing much can be done about that. Just do the two books and you should be fine.

Again dont do them in a hurry. Start in your vacation time.

EnglishThis section is mostly to do with your reading and comprehension. When you read

the newspaper every day, these two abilities improve considerably (another reason why you

should read the news). With time, you should be able to read and comprehend much fasterthan what you can now. This should be your only aim and strategy for English in the CLAT.

Then again, they might ask you basic Grammar and all, so make sure you know all of them

perfectly. Refer to a good Grammar book if necessary.

MathematicsYou shall only do the Math section in the CLAT Book (Part D). It has little

weightage so dont worry much about it. Just make sure that you can get any question right

on the topics in the CLAT Book.

    Some General tips

    1. Figure out for yourself when and how you want to deal with each section and draw upa schedule.

    2. Remember you are leaving out Static G.K and certain parts of Logical Reasoning andMathematical ability. Hence you should be thorough with whatever you actually

learn. You cannot afford to make mistakes in this aspect.

    3. CLAT is a race against time. You not only need to know things, you need to do thingsfast. You must strive to improve your speed and efficiency.

    4. Keep reminding yourself how important this is for you and for your family. Docomplete justice (typical Law-schoolite language) to all your reading material.

    5. Keep evaluating your progress.6. Keep taking mock tests every week. I mean every week.7. Look forward to the CLAT in May 2014!
