  • 8. Pick jobs and companies that play to them Take on stretch assignments that build on them Dont spend too much time shoring up or hiding weaknesses
  • 9. Finally, pass the torch
  • 10. Give back by paying it forward Do that inside your organization and outside as well
  • 11. HOW TO GET PROMOTED
  • 12. Nail the basics of excellent work hygiene

  • 14. Attendance Hours Attire How you treat colleagues Things that happen out of the office
  • 15. Be organized Be professional Volunteer for extras Deliver on commitments
  • 16. Good attitude Live the values Constantly learn Read business books/articles Join professional groups Practice universal skills like speaking, writing, presenting, analytics

  • 27. When you are asking your manager to communicate something (an email to the team, a reference letter, etc.), draft it for him or her
  • 28. Do a start-stop-continue analysis once a year on all of your key activities
  • 29. Own your own development plan and check in on it at least quarterly
  • 30. Read a relevant business book and ask your manager to discuss insights with you
  • 31. Dress for success even casual can be neat and client ready
  • 32. Respond to every email where you are on the TO line within a day, even if its to say you will respond longer form later
  • 33. End every meaningful interaction by asking for informal feedback on how youre doing and what else you can be doing
  • 34. Do something thats not required but that you feel is a best practice
  • 35. (If you have staff reporting into you) Show up for every checkin with your manager with a list of all staff issues and highlights
  • 36. Own the solution, not just the problem
  • 37. Own cross-functional projects
