THE PONDS The ponds that I will be telling you to

make have some things that in Africa they probably didn’t have. Like a filter, a heater, or an aerator.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION Fish farming is raising fish like you

would any other crop or animal. You have to plant or stock your pond. You have to feed your fish, and when the time comes you harvest your pond.

Two of the easiest fish to raise are tilapia and cat fish.

Fish farming will give you food to eat and fish to sell.

STEP 1 The first thing you

might want to do is figure out where your pond is going to be.

The best place for your pond is at the bottom of a hill because water will drain into your pond when it rains.

STEP 2 Next, you are going

to want to dig you pond with a good old shovel. This is probably the best tool to use if you are doing it by hand.

STEP 3 You are going to want to save the dirt

that you have dug up and put it on the 3 sides of your pond not the hill side. Make 16 feet wide and 18 inches tall incase it floods over.

STEP 4 Step 4 is

simple. Fill your pond with water

STEP 5 This step was

probably not done in the book. Put an aerator in your pond.

An aerator is a device that adds air to water or something else.

STEP 6 Make sure you have

a place to store your fish food.

STEP 8 Stock your pond

with baby fish to how ever many you would like to harvest.

All you have to do now is wait for the harvest.
