How to:

make an embroidered faux hand bound notebook coverkootoyoo … click & stitch

Page 2: How to make a faux hand bound notebook cover

• Stitch your little heart out. • You need your base cloth to be at least twice the width of your open notebook & a

couple of inches taller.

Page 3: How to make a faux hand bound notebook cover

• Lay your notebook onto the wrong side of your embroidered piece.

• Wrap the fabric around the notebook & pin to mark the centre of the spine and also the “margin” or inside edge of the spiral binding.

• It isn’t necessary to use a notebook that’s spiral bound but it does allow the notebook to be opened flat. This will be roughly 2cm or .8inches from the centre spine.

• Unwrap your notebook & lay your embroidered piece flat.• Begin by ruling a line along the centre spine mark.

• Now rule a line along your “margin” line which should be roughly 2cm or .8inches below your centre spine line.

• Next rule a third line equal distance from the centre spine mark towards the “back” of the notebook cover.

• Make a mark to indicate the top & bottom of your notebook.

Page 9: How to make a faux hand bound notebook cover

• Now rule a line across all three lines at the top of the notebook & at the bottom.

• Make a mark approximately 2cm or .8inch in from the top & bottom indicators.

Page 11: How to make a faux hand bound notebook cover

• Time for a bit of maths.• Measure the distance between your two marks…mine was 19cm & divide that number by 3 & make three more

marks accordingly.

• Now rule lines to mark all these points.

• Your spine marks should now look something like this.

• Beginning at the base of the notebook stitch all the way along the margin line. • I used stem stitch because I think it gives an effect most like floss or string.

• Then stitch your four “binding” lines.• DON’T stitch along the marks indicating the top & bottom of the notebook. Those are just for reference for

the “margin” line.

• Your finished piece should now look something like this.

• It’s time to actually make the notebook cover.• You can find a really simple tutorial on how to do that at… http://www.kootoyoo.com/2009/03/how-to-make-fabric-notebook-cover.html
