Lichtenstein Pop Art Self-Portrait1. Outline the “major” lines of your photograph with permanent marker and/or dark black pen

2. Get a long sheet of white paper. Line your photo up at the bottom. Trace your black lines with pencil. Use a light table or the window. Only 2 students per lighting table at a time.

3. Your artwork should now look like this:

4. Trace your pencil lines neatly with a black permanent marker and/or dark pen.

5. Carefully, erase all of the pencil lines.

6. Write a phrase to use in your artwork. THEN draw a “thought cloud” around it.

7. Get an unsharpened pencil and a watercolor kit (palette, water cup, brush, and sponge). Get your red (or orange or brown) watercolor paint slightly wet with the paintbrush. Dip the eraser end of the pencil in the paint. “Stamp” the eraser end of the pencil across your skin to create the Lichtenstein “dot matrix.”.

8. Carefully, paint the rest of your picture with water color paint. If you prefer to use marker for this portion of the project, that is okay.

9. Allow to dry

10. Use a black permanent marker and/or a dark pen to make your original black lines bolder (fatter, thicker, harder etc.). Can you tell the difference between the image in step #8 and the image below?

11. You are finished! Turn in your completed work to Ms. J.
