Open Standards

• Open standards refers to the standards of something open to the public. These may not have as high standards as closed standards because a private program or client based program may have sponsors or methods of payment so the quality may be better because the experts are drawn to pay roles.

• This means that when using free programs or websites that the quality of information/performance may not be as good/effective as a program you might have to pay for. Also, free programs have a higher tendency to carry viruses.
