When you meet someone, focus on how you can support them

Getting a business card or becoming a LinkedIn contact doesn’t get you noticed. Asking the right questions and providing high value does.

1Look for ways to provide value instead of focusing on the outcome.

Don’t wait to establish relationships until you need something.

Turn the switch on how you build powerful networks.

Page 7: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

7

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

When you compare yourself to others, you lose; you dampen your light and fail to show your own strengths.Comparison drains your creative potential.

2Think about what makes you so

excited that you can barely stand it.

Go DO that.

Page 8: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

Don’t Make Excuses that You are “Too Busy”3There isn’t enough time to go to the gym, cook, meet with friends, start a new project, and read a book.

Life is not about time, but rather about commitment, connection to outrage, hope, and a belief that your leadership will lead to real change.

Commitment > Time

“Am I spending my time and energy connecting with the

values that inspire me to act?”

Keep asking yourself

8

9

Make Good Use of Your Energy4 Time is constant; you can’t manage it. But you can manage your energy.

Sometimes, saying “no” is actually part of serving both someone else and yourself.

Don’t waste your energy - you can’t afford to.

Commit to your Greatness5 It’s time to realize that you don’t need to be perfect.

If you want to dream, innovate, and develop world-changing ideas, you need to live your experiments out day by day.

That's how we improve - in small, daily increments.

Page 11: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

Start with Your Story6 Your story evokes values and creates a connection with others that builds a real relationship.

It is critical to overcome feelings of being judged, of being different, in order to tell your personal story.

It’s natural to feel afraid of being honest about your life story, afraid of what others will think. But fear is a product of mind, a fantasy that grips and destroys. You can conquer your mind’s habit of creating fear.

Don’t think:“People won’t care about my story or values”

At First, Balance Passion and Skill1

Beginning [Passion + Skill]

It’s easy to end up working at what we do best rather than what we love to do. The best is often to find a mix of both at the beginning and transition over time into what we love most.

Future[Passion + Success]

Show why you matter2This is the difference between two people with the same resume: One gets hired because

they better show why they matter—whether it’s with a C-level exec, a leading expert or a young entrepreneur.

Everyone is busy and wants to have conversations that matter with people who matter, like you.14

15

Surround yourself with people who you want to be3

You are most like the 5 people you spend the most time with

Choose WiselyRaise the bar and build your networks with others who are living purposeful, inspired lives.

16

Write an Email people will read4Avoid starting with “How are you?”People are busy—start with a brief sentence outlining who you are and why you're writing. Save the niceties for when you meet or exchange more messages.

Ask the question you want to ask “Let me know if you have time” VS"Can we meet for 15 minutes over coffee in the next two weeks?"

Be direct with your introductionOne-size-fits-all three-sentence bio VS One-sentence, results-focused description about what you have to offer, catered to the recipient.

Ask what you can offer in returnA LinkedIn testimonial, a tweet, a blog post, time to chat about their idea, an introduction.

17

Make your own luck5Making your own luck is about reaching out and connecting when it matters most.

If you are told no, make it happen anyway.

Dig deeper than face value. Use creative ways to connect with and help others.

Page 18: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

18

Differentiate private and public relationships6Have a framework of understanding that a public relationship is not one where you seek love and acceptance.Be extra intentional with public relationships, like the one you have with your boss. Don’t leave space for confusion about your role or mission.

Page 19: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

Get a commitment7Commitment comes from allowing people to access their own experience. Stop asking for favors, ask for commitments.

Know others for who they are8The key to strong relationships is getting to know people, and then trusting them to be who they are...instead of who you want them to be.

Let people be the best version of themselves, not your version of them.20

22

Have Fun1First Figure out what you want.

Then Have fun with it!

When you do get noticed, hired or anything you want, ask informed, thoughtful questions and others will remember you. Don’t forget to have fun with it.

People want to be around those who love what they do.

Page 23: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

23

Do meaningful work2Most research has shown that extrinsic rewards (i.e.

pay for performance) distort results, whereas

intrinsic rewards enhance

performance.

Page 24: How To Get Noticed, Hired or Anything Else You Want

24

Make the most of your day3Set up your calls and meetings only 2 days a week, if you can. Use the rest of the week for projects that matter most to you.

Have less meetings. Meetings don't make decisions, leaders make decisions. When you have less meetings, more work gets done.

Follow the 7pm rule. Why do we work past 7pm? We make rules to have lunch and shower, so when did it become optional to go home at 7pm - it’s the end of the day! Take the time you need to recharge and you'll produce better work.

Schedule hours per day for various tasks. Set a scheduled time each day for the work that matters most. Plan everything else around that precious time. Owning your time is about making time for the work that matters.
