How to Get More Sleep with a Newborn

So, now you have a baby and

you felt never so tired in your

life before. Well, you must go by

the old saying ‘nap when the

baby naps’. You leave whatever

is occupying you, laundry or

dishes; you can get back to

them eventually.

I know this is practically not very

possible and you need this time

to tackle your daily chores, but

your little one does not

understand all this. So, how about

some real time ideas that can

help you get more sleep?

One tried and tested idea could be

sharing the night time feedings with

your partner, this will ensure at

least few hours’ sound sleep for

both of you. Read on for more

ideas…

Watch, Wait and Try!

Sometimes, the midnight fussing and

crying of your baby is just an

indication that he/she is settling

down. Watch and wait, until you

suspect that the baby is actually

hungry or uncomfortable. Waiting for

a few minutes is perfectly fine for

both of you.

Say no to an Added Responsibility!

Let friends handle this! It might seem that you

lack in social graces, but believe me it is

perfectly fine for a new mom to catch up with

their most needed sleep. While your girlfriends

and sisters can play a host and take care of the

little one. And if your friend or sister is a mom

herself, she would understand and will not deny

visiting often to give you a quick naptime.

It is quite evident that you are a little guilty

of not spending much time with your older

kid or other family embers during pregnancy.

Just don’t say ‘Yes’ for any hectic xcursions

or trips just to overcome this guilt. Do not

agree to any extra responsibilities when you

ave a newborn at home. Refrain from getting

over tired and sleep in whatever time you

get.

Sleep Sharing!

It is tested and proven that the baby sleeps

for longer, if is co-slept with the mother.

Instead, of your baby sleeping in the

bassinet or cradle, make him/her sleep with

you. The baby feels more comfortable close

to you and will have a good long sleep

allowing you to enjoy longer snooze.

Green can give more sleep!

Your little angel needs utmost care to stay

healthy and have a happy siesta. Employ

organic bedding into your sleep system. An

organic bed sheet and comforter like the

bamboo sheet is hypoallergenic in nature,

has moisture wicking properties and keeps

the bed bugs, and microorganism away

naturally, giving you and your baby a ‘no

disturbance’ nap.

Sleep when the baby sleeps!

Not to mention that you must exercise sleeping

in chunks, whenever your baby sleeps. Keep the

phone on silent and keep aside all the chores. The

calls and chores can wait.

Don’t ignore the baby Blues!

Sleep loss or irregular sleep can lead to

mood changes. In fact, you may undergo sleep

disorders or depression, if you are experiencing

some of these, you must not ignore it. See your

doctor to address these issues.
