Step 1: Measure Centre Line
• Begin by determining the position of the door knocker. We recommend a central position at shoulder height.
• Carefully measure and mark a centre line.
Step 2: Assemble Knocker
• Place the door knocker bolts into their positions in the knocker.
Step 3: Mark Bolt Positions
• Hold the door knocker up to its position and mark the top bolt position with a pencil on your centre line.
Step 4: Measure Bolt Holes’ Distance
• Measure the distance between the bolt holes on the back of the knocker from centre to centre.
• Use this distance to measure down from your previously marked top bolt position to give you the accurate position of the bottom bolt.
• This will ensure that the knocker sits perfectly flat with the surface of the door.
Step 5: Drill Holes
• Drill the mounting holes using a drill bit half a millimetre larger than the diameter of the mounting bolts.
• Drill at a 90 degree angle to the surface of the door.
• To avoid splintering the door, drill very slowly and stop just as the drill bit breaks through the surface at the far side of the door, and then drill from the other side.
Step 6: Fit Knocker
• Fit the door knocker in place with the bolts.
Step 7: Trim Bolts
• Wearing protective gloves and safety eyewear, trim the excess length off the bolts using a hacksaw blade.
Step 8: Tighten Nuts
• Use a spanner to firmly tighten the nuts in place.
