SAP Business Warehouse: How to edit aTransport Request

Posted by Loed Despuig May 31, 2013 This guide is sort of a trick..:D

This will teach you how to edit a transport request that you have already transported to QAS or PROD ..Forexample, you already seek for an approval of the TRANSPORT REQUEST that you have created..Aftertransporting all the Infoproviders and Infoobjects that you have created, you noticed that you missed to includea single INFOOBJECT on your request..Hence, you will again seek for an approval of another transportrequest for that one (1) infoobject as well as re-transport all the infoproviders and infoobjects that you havealready transported..

Using this trick, you need not to seek for approval for another transport request since you will be using thesame Transport Request Number ..You will just edit your first transport and add that single infoobject that youhave missed..

    Here is the trick guyz!

    1. Go to SE10 or STMS and copy the transport request number that you want to edit.

True, in such a case it would actually come in handy. Reminds me of a project back in 2004 where we hadsimilar "approval" issues & no time to wait... cool, I'll make a note of it.

Loed Despuig in response to Raf Boudewijns on page 10 Nov 29, 2013 4:57 PMThanks for yo ur comment Raf.. But definitely you can use this later on..;-) Before I found this trick, I thought this will not help me since creating a new transport request is a lot easier..Butwhen I was deployed in one of the clients of our company, I found this trick very useful especially if all your

transport requests still need to be approved by so many managers (always not around in the office)..If thosemanagers will not give their approval for transport, the basis team will not transport the transport requests Ihave created (several hours will be wasted for waiting for that approval which you can already use for testing).. Since I can edit the transport request(s) previously approved by the managers before, I can edit the previousrequest(s) to inclu de the new o b jects or infoproviders I just created for testing in QA server..Hence, the wastedhours became "productive" hours..:D

Cool trick, but as pointed out by EDWIN BAIYE most likely not allowed at about 75% of my clients. Also, if you're going to use this to add 1 InfoObject, isn't it a lot easier (and faster) to create a new transportrequest for that InfoObject?

EDWIN BAIYENov 11, 2013 7:45 PMI know for cer tain that in some o rganizations, once a transport is created and released, it is abosolutelyforbiden for your to try and modify it in any shape or form. If you wish to change anything, you have to createanother transport to overwrite the oginial one. This will help a lot of developers if their environments allow it.

Ranganath Korata in response to vinod bokade on page 13 Jun 10, 2013 11:23 PMHi Vinod, I have not tried this in 7.3, but I don't see a reason why it would not work. I'm just saying that in 7.3, duringa transport release, the system checks for dependency in the target system, and warns the user for missingobjects. This does not happen in lower versions of BW. By this, I'm only saying that this trick would be moreuseful in lower versions where there is no such check.

This is a great trick. How I wish I had known this earlier. It could have saved me from all the approvals during

    go-live

    Thanks,Ranga

vinod bokadeJun 10, 2013 11:16 PMGreat article.....very useful for production support and go live period. Ranganath Korata , do you mean this will not work in BW 7.3 and onwards.

Even I guess one can have fear of audit as well same TR moved multiple time in PROD.

All though ku dos, simple great

Ranganat h KorataJun 10, 2013 8:39 PMVery interesting Loed, and very well detailed also. This would be more useful on systems running on versions

prior to 7.3. T he dependency c heck in 7.3 has been quite reliable so far

Jun 6, 2013 8:00 AMThats an Exc ellent one... Good R& D Loed.

Loed Despuig in response to Manohar Delampady on page 14 Jun 6, 2013 7:30 AMIs it possible to have all the objects and then include a new one, may be capture the missed object ina request and insert it into the request being edited without deleting any objects. It would be great andflawless trick if this is possible

Yup, that is p ossible mate..In m y case, if I forg ot some object s to include in my previous transport, I just SKIP

STEP 7 and include the objects that I needed..

Manohar Delampady in response to Loed Despuig on page 14 Jun 6, 2013 6:16 AMYup the doubt crossed my mind as well, but I haven't tried it yet, I coudn't be confident. What Srikanth means,I think, is if you delete all the objects in the request and capture new / missed objects in the same request andtransport again, then wouldn't you be loosing on the objects that were held in the transport request till now inthe target system ? Sometime down the lane if you'd like to know to which transport request a specific objectbelonged to, and you try checking in SE03, and if the same request was edited and sent back without thisparticular object, then tracking would seem impossible. Is it possible to have all the objects and then include

a new one, may be capture the missed object in a request and insert it into the request being edited withoutdeleting any objects. It would be great and flawless trick if this is possible. Srikanth, please correct me if I'm wrong here. Regards, Manohar. D
