Set up rubric

Locate Turnitin activity 1. With editing on, navigate to the Turnitin Assignment created and click Edit settings from the menu. 2. Scroll down to Grademark options and from the Attach Rubric to this assignment select Rubric. 3. Right click on the Launch Rubric Manager link and open in a new

window or tab.

Create new rubric1. From the menu in the top left of the pop up screen select Create New Rubric

Edit rubric details1. Enter rubric name2. Select Rubric scoring type

a. Standard – enter values for each column and weight criteria rows using percentage

b. Qualitative – provides standard feedback without numeric scoring

c. Custom – enter any value directly into each rubric cell3. Edit and add criterion plus percentage where applicable4. Edit and add standard or scale with value if applicable5. Or you can upload a rubric that has been created in and

exported from Turnitin using the menu in the top right of the window.

Select SAVE at the bottom right of the window to save your rubric.

Types of rubricsYou can switch between the three scoring types of rubric and criteria and standards will remain the same, only scoring method will change.

Standard rubric: allows you to enter scale values and criteria percentages. The maximum value for the standard rubric will be the same as the highest scale value entered.

Types of rubrics (continued)Custom rubric: allows you to enter any value directly into the rubric cells. The maximum value for the Custom rubric will be the sum of the highest value entered in each of the criteria rows.

Grading formTo create a grading form you select the top right menu and select Create new grading form.

Grading form: allows you to create a rubric that has a list of criteria that contains free response text fields and the ability to score each criterion.

Assign rubric to assignmentOnce you have saved your rubric and close the browser window.

Refresh your browser and return to the Turnitin settings. From Grademark options your rubric will now be available to attach to the assignment.

Save the SettingsSelect Save and return to subject.

Marking using a rubric

Access student submissions1. From the homepage select the Turnitin assignment.2. Select the student’s assignment submission. From the menu on the right select the rubric icon.

3. Click on the rubric icon that appears on the right vertical menu. The rubric will appear beside the student assignment submission.

Mark using assigned rubric1. The name of the rubric being used to mark this assignment.2. Criterion and scale(s) for Standard and Custom rubrics this will appear as a value, for

Qualitative rubrics only a scale will appear.3. Slide the dot to the scale standard applicable. You will see the score/grade for the

assignment adjust as you select the value.4. The description of the criterion and scale are display at the bottom of the window if you

need to check the more detailed description.5. The setting cog allows you to check rubric setting, change rubric scoring or select

another rubric. Note: if you change a rubric after you have marked assignments all existing scoring will be deleted.

Marking using a grading form1. From the homepage select the Turnitin assignment.2. Select the student’s assignment submission. From the menu on the right select the rubric icon.

3. Click on the Grading/Rubric icon that appears on the right vertical menu. The rubric will appear beside the student assignment submission.

4. Enter a mark and add comments. Then select the Apply to grade button.

Moving between papersYou can now move on to the next assignment using the arrows at the top right of the marking area.
