How to Create a Media Assignment When a class goes online, the media available within MyMathLab can take the place of the lecture we would ordinarily give face to face. All MyMathLab classes are loaded with a copy of the eBook for the course plus videos, PowerPoints and other interesting options. These media are always available to students but to “encourage” them to actually use them, you can create a media assignment. To do so, go to Instructor Tools (sometimes called Course Tools) and then select Assignment Manager. You will choose the tab Create Assignment much as if you were creating a homework or a test.

Onthefinalpage,youchooseyourassignmentsettings.Thispagelooksexactlythesameaswhenyouarecreatingahomework,quizortest.BesuretoSaveandAssign.Fromexperience,theproblemwithMediaAssignmentsisthatstudentsfeeltheydon’tneedthem.Theywilltendtoskipthemandgostraighttothe“real”homework.OnethingyoucandoisbuildaMediaAssignmentandaHomeworkAssignmentforeachsectionofthebookandsettheMediaAssignmentasaPREREQUISITEfortheHomeworkAssignment.BuildtheMediaAssignmentfirstand,whenyougettothesettingspageontheHomeworkAssignment,lookforthePrequisiteoption.
