Presently the number of schools offering five years B. Arch. Degree course in the country are approximately 303 and admission to the course in all schools of architecture is compulsorily through aptitude tests. The syllabus and pattern of the tests are prescribed by Council of Architecture. Many students from science stream have art aptitude and likewise students from art stream have aptitude for science. They all intend to seek admission to B. Arch course and need proper guidance. Today there are several guides available in the market for mathematics and science subjects but none for architecture aptitude tests covering the syllabus of NATA. Many coaching centres are providing expert coaching for IIT and B.Tech. but very few experts are available for architecture entrance examinations. The main reason for the same is that in Architecture Entrance Examinations, there is not a single question asked from physics, chemistry, mathematics, English, or general knowledge. Only qualified and experienced architects can provide coaching and guidance for architecture entrance exams.

A large number of students are under the impression that since they have given the architecture entrance exam (JEE) conducted by CBSE, they would get admission on the basis of this exam. As a matter of fact very few colleges accept the score of JEE. Most of the self financing and other architecture colleges and schools in India accept only NATA score. Unless and until you clear NATA exam you cannot get admission in these colleges.

Architecture A large number of engineering colleges are offering B.Tech./B.E. degree courses but the colleges offering architecture degree course are comparatively very less. While more than 19 lakhs engineers are produced every year only 4500 architects are produced per year. Only 48 thousand architects are registered in the country till December 2012. There is an estimated shortage of 7 lakh architects in the country. With expanding global economies, rising incomes, mass migration of people from rural to urban areas as a result of mass transport systems available, the demand on architecture has increased manifolds.

The syllabus and pattern of the tests are prescribed by Council of Architecture.
What is NATA?
NATA What you need to Know
• NATA: National Aptitude Test in Architecture• National stage exam for admission to undergraduate courses in Architecture (B.Arch)
• NATA is conducted by National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA) which is a body of Council of Architecture,New Delhi.
• NATA is without doubt the most significant and
mandatory exam for architecture aspirants.
Eligibility?
The Candidates should have passed class 12th
with Mathematics as a subject or done diplomafrom a recognised institute/university/boardwith at least 50% aggregate marks inl2th/diploma.ORThe Candidates with InternationalBaccalaureate Diploma having 50% aggregatemarks and Maths as a subject can also apply.
When to apply?
The Test can be written on any day as theapplicant wishes after getting appointment from approved test centres, as per NATA schedule, given on www.nata.in .
It is suggested that instead of rushing to apply for registration without preparation you should prepare well for this entrance exam.
A Person can apply at anytime during this period.
Where to write?
NATA Test is generally written in the test centre which is nothing but recognized schools of architecture all over India.

What comes in Nata Question paper:
2 D compositions with the help of the Basic forms of geometry and colour schemes
3D compositions of various objects with the effect of light and shade .
Memory Drawing of day today life with help of free hand sketches as well as with one point and 2 Point perspective method.•
There is no Negative marking in this test. NO REVALUATION IS POSSIBLE FOR EITHER OF THE TESTS
The Aptitude Test in Architecture shall consist of2 papers: (3 hours duration) Test- I - Aesthetic Sensitivity is to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination and observation; creativity and communication; and Architectural awareness. The test shall be of objective type and comprise of topics related to,(i)Visualizing three dimensional objects from two dimensional drawings.(ii) Visualizing different sides of three dimensional object.(iii) Analytical Reasoning.(iv) Mental Ability.(v) Imaginative comprehension and expression.(vi) Architectural awareness.
Test- II - The Drawing aptitude of the candidate shall be judged on the following aspects:(i)ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner.(ii) Visualizing and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on the surroundings.(iii) Sense of perspective drawing.(iv) Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes or forms.(v) Creating visual harmony using colours in given composition.(vi) Understanding of scale and sense of proportion (vii) Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on theme from day to day experiences.
