How to Copy a Test

This training module covers skills fundamental to test customization including copying entire tests,appending one test to another test, and test naming conventions.

The demonstrations in this video are extremely important, but they apply only to those with the ability tocustomize tests.

Getting Started

In order to customize a test, it must first be copied. To do this, scroll through all the McKessonAssessment Tools listed in the Assessment Information panel located on the account Home screen.Notice that to the right of each test name, underneath the Actions column, is a single icon that appearsas 2 pieces of paper. This is the copy icon. Selecting this icon, will allow you to make a copy of the test,which can then be customized.

For this example, a copy will be made of the 2010-SAMPLE-DEMO test, so begin by clicking the iconnext to this name.


Copy Assessment Screen

This brings up the Copy Assessment screen, which presents 2 choices: Create a New Assessment(copy everything) or Append to an Existing Assessment (copy groups and questions). The firstselection, Create a New Assessment, creates a copy of the currently selected test in its entirety. Thesecond selection, Append to Existing Assessment, allows you to add the contents of this test to analready copied or customized test. In most cases, you’ll create a new copy of the assessment, so,leaving the default selection set to the Create a New Assessment copy action, click the Submit button.


This presents a new Copy Assessment screen that allows you to assign the Destination Account and aNew Assessment ID. The destination account should never be changed; you should always leave it tothe account that appears, which is the same account ID as your currently logged in account. However,the New Assessment ID, which can contain up to 25 characters, serves as the unique ID, or identifier,for this particular assessment, so this does need to be changed.


Naming Convention

The standard naming convention for customized tests is to add a dash and a brief code identifying yourorganization to the end of the current name, and, in fact, the system will automatically populate the NewAssessment ID box with the current assessment ID to assist you in doing it that way.


To demonstrate this, add a dash followed by the company name “YOURCO” to the name that is alreadyin the New Assessment ID field. This ID, created for demonstration purposes only, will now identify thistest copy when it is used in all the training modules that follow. Once you’ve entered your NewAssessment ID, simply click the Submit button to create a copy of the assessment.


You will then be returned to the account Home screen where you can scroll down to the AssessmentInformation panel and view the copy of the test that you’ve just created. An important item to note hereis that each assessment ID must be unique throughout the entire system as a whole.


Assessment ID Error Message

If you do not change the Assessment ID before clicking the Submit button, you’ll see an error message,as shown here. This indicates that the current assessment ID has been left as is in the NewAssessment ID text box, and, since that ID already exists, you must select a different Assessment ID.Make the appropriate changes, referring to the guidelines just discussed, and click the Submit buttonagain. Once the system accepts your New Assessment ID, you’ll be returned to the account Homescreen where you can view the results of your actions.


Appending Assessments

Referring back to the initial Copy Assessment screen, you will recall there were 2 options: Create aNew Assessment, which was just demonstrated, and Append to an Existing Assessment, which allowsyou to copy the contents of one test into an existing test, effectively merging the 2 tests together.


Once again you’ll start at the Home screen. Scrolling down the Assessment Information panel you willsee that the customized test created in the previous demonstration, 2010-SAMPLE-DEMO-YOURCO,is at the top of the list. It contains 37 questions and has zero respondents; this will serve as thedestination test for the append operation. The next step, then, is to identify the test that contains thequestions you wish to append, or add to, the test previously created.


For this demonstration, select the 2010-SAMPLE-DEMO-APPEND test, which contains 35 questions.To begin the append operation, click the copy button next to this test.


From the Copy Assessment screen that follows, select Append to Existing Assessment. Then click theSubmit button.


On the following screen you’re asked which assessment you wish to append to. In this example there isonly one test to which you can append an assessment. The reason being that you can only append toassessments that are both copies and contain no results. Of the 2 copied assessments here, only thetest created in the previous demonstration, the 2010-SAMPLE-DEMO-YOURCO test, has norespondents, so it is the only assessment that you have the ability to append to. Confirm the selectionand click the Submit button.


Now when you scroll down to the Assessment Information panel, you’ll see the2010-SAMPLE-DEMO-YOURCO test has 72 questions and zero respondents, confirming that you’veeffectively merged the contents of 2010-SAMPLE-DEMO-APPEND to the test created earlier in thisdemonstration.


Additional Customizing Options

You’ll now want to look at some of the other customizing options. Generally, you’ll want to leave thedefault settings of the test as they are, but you may wish to change things in order to meet your uniqueenvironment or needs. To see the customizing options available to you, click the Edit Assessmentaction icon located next to the new test to make a few changes.


Assessment Editor Screen

This brings you to the Assessment Editor screen. Here you see the blue Assessment Information panel,which provides you with some basic information about your test, and, toward the right side of thescreen, the Assessment Control Panel. Clicking the Basic Assessment Options button, located at thetop of the screen, will bring you to the Assessment Information Editor screen where you can makeseveral changes.


Assessment Information Editor

This screen presents you with all of the various options associated with the test broken up into severalmanageable groups, the first of which is General Assessment Options. Here you will find generalinformation, including the Assessment Name. By default a name will appear in this field, however, youmay change this name to whatever suits your own needs. In this example, the name is changed to MyCustomized Test but you may select any appropriate name using up to 50 total characters.


The last option in General Assessment Options allows you to determine the Passing Grade for theassessment in question. Currently, the Passing Grade is set at 80%, which is what the test just copiedwas set to, but this can also be changed to whatever suits your particular needs; here let’s change it to85%.

There are many other options that can be changed as well. The Assessment Information Editorcontains far more options than can be covered in this module; however, it’s important that you knowwhere it’s located so you can access it easily. When you are actually customizing your ownassessments, you can always refer to the Help information by clicking the Question Mark icon locatedin the upper right corner of each section.

To save the changes that have been made, scroll to the bottom of this screen and select the Submitbutton.


You can now see that the Assessment name reflects the change, My Customized Test. You could havemade several other changes, but it’s recommended that you leave the default settings as they are whencopying all McKesson tests, and only change basic information such as the Passing Score and theAssessment Name.


This demonstration covered copying tests in their entirety as well as appending one test to another inorder to facilitate customization.
