International Program

The International Program at HsKA offers lectures and seminars in: • Business & Economics • Computer Science & Business Information Systems • Engineering & Sciences

The lectures from the regular degree program, comprising two to four teaching hours per week throughout the semester, are given by professors of the university.

The complementary courses provide additional skills and competences that are indispensable in a global world of business and trade. These seminars either take place on a weekly basis throughout the semester or are carried out as intensive seminars lasting from three to five days. The visiting lecturers for these seminars include representatives of high-level management from business and industry with a wealth of professional experience in their respective fields.

For exchange students who wish to stay at HsKA for two semesters, the International Program combines well with an internship. The Center of Competence team has numerous industry contacts and is happy to assist students in the process of applying.

For further information and an overview of all courses currently on offer please consult the IP website at www.hs-karlsruhe.de/ internationalprogram.

The International Program (IP) at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA) is a joint venture between the International Office (AAA) and the Center of Competence (CC). As the principal service center for incoming international students, the International Office is responsible for the administrative side of the program, while the courses and their contents are organized by the Center of Competence.

Designed to meet the needs and interests of international exchange students who prefer to study in English, the International Program is composed of lectures from the regular degree programs, as well as complementary courses with more general topics such as “Presentation Techniques”, “Accessing the German Labor Market” or “Intercultural Management Communication”. Through both types of courses students become easily acquainted with their new study environment and are encouraged to interact in an international environment.

The International Program allows for great flexibility in the selection of individual courses and gives students the opportunity to acquire a sufficient number of ECTS credit points.

The International Program German language program Karlsruhe: a good place to live and study

We strongly encourage students to learn German while studying in Karlsruhe. HsKA’s own Foreign Language Institute (IFS) offers German courses at different levels both as two-week intensive courses right before the start of the semester and during the semester. The proficiency levels of the language courses correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Students might also like to join the course Germany Today, which deals with selected topics of German life, culture, history, and politics.

Furthermore, students on the International Program are eligible to take part in other language courses offered by the IFS such as English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

All courses are free of charge.

For further information on HsKA’s language program please consult www.hs-karlsruhe.de/language-institute.

The city of Karlsruhe is an important commercial and administrative center in south-west Germany with some 290,000 inhabitants. It is situated in the Rhine valley, on the border of the Black Forest, and has a comparatively mild climate with warm summers. Its proximity to France and Switzerland offers many opportunities for excursions. It is a prosperous and very safe city with excellent public transport, including an hourly high-speed train connection to Frankfurt Airport.

Karlsruhe is well known as the center of one of Germany’s premier technology regions, with extensive state-of-the art research being carried out here. Many international companies such as Siemens, Bosch and Daimler and well-known research institutions are located in, around, or close to Karlsruhe. Nine institutions of higher education with a combined student population of over 42,000 make Karlsruhe a genuine student place, with the majority of students enrolled in engineering and IT disciplines, as well as arts and music.

The HsKA campus is ideally located within the city’s green belt and at the same time only a five-minute walk away from the city center. Classrooms and laboratories, library, student canteen, and residence halls for local and international students are all within easy reach.
