How to Apply - for International Students

As you prepare to begin your study at Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP) here are the steps you

need to take to get acceptance into a programme at TPP and for obtaining a student visa from

New Zealand Immigration.

We can assist you with this process

1. Collect and send all the required documents

Please prepare the following documents and send them to [email protected] - the TPP

International Students Office.

We will review your application to make sure everything is in order and notify you of your

acceptance or arrange an audition/interview for you if necessary.

Your completed international student enrolment form (this form can be

downloaded from www.tpp.ac.nz)

Your resume/CV

A Statement of Purpose - explaining why you want to enrol in this

programme and why you want to study in NZ

Your certified academic records

Your IELTs result

A certified copy of your passport

Your current visa – if applicable

2. We then send you an “Offer of Place” letter

Once you have met the criteria and have been accepted into a programme at TPP, we will

send you an “Offer of Place” letter. This includes an invoice.

3. Apply for your visa

You can apply for your visa online or your can send a hard copy of all your documents to

Immigration New Zealand.

4. Pay your tuition fee

When you are ready, you need to pay your tuition fee to us. Our bank account details are on

the application form.

We will then send you the receipt. You need to send this to Immigration New Zealand along

with your other documents.

5. Finding accommodation

If you have indicated on your application form that you require assistance with

accommodation, then the following will happen.

For Greymouth: A place in the student hostel will be reserved when we receive your

application and the cost of your accommodation for the period of study will be included in

your invoice.

For Christchurch and Auckland: We will assist you to find temporary accommodation for

the first two or three weeks. That will give you time to find accommodation of your choice.

6. Your medical and travel insurance

TPP will pay for this – so no cost to you. Once you have your visa, you will be sent your

insurance certificate, a copy of the policy and a claim form.

7. Send us your travel details

Send us your travel schedule so that we can meet you at the airport when you arrive and take

you to your accommodation.

8. Prepare for your departure

9. Keep in contact with TPP

After you have obtained a student visa (or anytime during the process) please keep in contact

with our International Student Office ([email protected]). We can answer any

questions you have.
