2. After signing in, click on the “grid” icon located on the upper right side of the screen to show a list of Google Apps. Click on ‘More’ to reveal additional apps and then select ‘YouTube’.

3. You will be directed to YouTube’s home page. To activate your YouTube account, all you need to do is click on the blue “Sign in” button, located on the upper right corner.

How to Activate You YouTube Account

1. To activate your YouTube account, sign into your UMS Gmail account (http://gmail.maine.edu) using your MaineStreet username and password.

4. After your account is activated, YouTube will recommend some videos. Click next to continue.

5. Next, YouTube will recommend channels for you to subscribe to. To uncheck all recommended channels, click ‘Deselect section’. Click ‘Save‘ to continue.

6. In order to upload videos, you will first need to set up your own YouTube channel. To do this, click ‘Upload’, located at the top of screen.

7. Enter the required verification information and click ‘Continue’.

8. Now, you can begin uploading videos by clicking on the ‘upload’ icon or by dragging and dropping a video file. Note, your videos are limited to 15 minutes in length. Your can increase your limit beyond 15 minutes by clicking ‘Increase your limit’.

9. In order to increase your limit, you will need to verify your account by providing YouTube with a phone number. Enter a valid phone number and click ‘Submit’.

10. YouTube will call or text you with an verification code. Enter the 6-digit code and click ‘Submit’ to complete the process. You will now be able to upload extended-length videos. Note, YouTube scans videos for copy-protected material, including background music.
