A few months back in 2015…
MOZ suddenly updated
its key metric
and many sites saw a drop in their Domain
Authority or DA
Panic was felt in the digital marketing community.
Many were taken by surprise, whereas others were apprehensive about downslide of their sites’ Moz ratings.
Fear of loss in traffic as well as rankings on Google became widespread….
Are you also feeling the heat because of a
sharp drop in your site’s Domain Authority?
A drop in Domain Authority of your website is not necessarily going to translate into a loss of traffic and ranking on Google.
RELAX!
If yes, then just
BUT…This episode has fueled a new debate…
Is Moz’s DA still relevant as a metric to measure the success of a website?
How relevant is DAfor the success of your website?
My answer would be an emphatic “NO”
If you ask me…
I don’t use DA, when I have to assess the performance or
success of a website.I don’t even consider it as an
indicator of effective link-building.
DAis just a metric based on some
sound parameters, but there are “many other SEO factors” that
impact the success of your website.
A successful link-building campaign also leads to good traffic and rankings, but is it the only factor responsible for your success?
So, what’s more important for ranking and traffic?
Is it DAOr
Anything else?
Is there anything else that is more important than DA for rankings
and traffic?
RELEVANCE
Relevance is far more
important for a website than its
DA
You are doing great!
If you have
high DA and
a high degree of relevanc
e…
Then, why do people even
discuss Domain Authority?
We don’t endorse DA as a metric to measure the success of a website, but we still respect it, becauseDA can be measured as a tangible factor!
is a complex metric and it uses around
40 signals
DA
However, Moz doesn’t disclose
those signals.

DA is a cardinal number (on a scale of 100) and it makes life easier for marketers, when they want to check the efficiency of their websites.
So, should your links be judged based on the DA of a website?
DA as one of the factors to pursue a link but a far more important factor is “relevance”. Relevant links
are always appreciated by Google and you should have a lot of such links.
Don’t banish websites with low DA for back-linking. Google algorithm doesn’t appreciate low quality spammy sites or unethical practices like link-exchange and link networks.
So, what kind of sites we
should focus on?
FOCUS
Focus on sites that have:A. Great contentB. Excellent user-experienceC. Contribution from bloggers and expertsD. Relevant to your niche
Key takeaways
A site with low DA, but with all the four features listed above, should be focused on.
Relevance should be the top priority and DA should be considered secondary in any link-building campaign.
