ALTIUS is an ATC simulation tool developed by SENASA, which allows to achieve a wide range of training objectives in Air Traffic Management (ATM). In its different versions, ALTIUS is completely suitable to the needs of each client and was designed to be installed in different units.

Its characteristics allow to complement and even replace the use of conventional ATC simulators for the execution of several training activities in ATC training. Also, it allows to perform the simulation at the ATC unit or control centre.

ALTIUS can be used in the initial and unit training (especially in unusual and emergency situations) for the following ATM professionals:

• TWR Air Traffic Controllers• En-Route Air Traffic Controllers• Approach Air Traffic Controllers• AFIS operators (Aerodrome Flight Information Service)• Apron Operators

It is also suitable for the advanced training in:

• New ratings• New local procedures

WHAT IS ALTIUS?

HOW DOES ALTIUS WORK?

The simulation exercises in ALTIUS include, among others, the following options:

• Generation of scenarios.• Design and execution of the exercises.• Learning Management System (LMS) for

the management of students and exercises.

• Tower configuration.• Configuration of

meteorological conditions.• Adjustment of traffic and required flights.• Recording and reproduction of the

finished exercises.• Aerodrome data base.• Aircraft and performance data base.• Voip communications service.

• Customer based interface.• Flight strips.• Flying Painting System (FPS): Guidance of

the aircraft through simple mouse “clicks”.

ALTIUS allows to perform Tower, Approach and En-Route ATC exercises in two kinds of simulation environment:

• Generic airspace, designed for the training on the basic air traffic control techniques in any rating.

• Customized airspace, based on a real airspace and including the air traffic requested by the client.

From a practical training point of view, ALTIUS is suitable for ATC simulation in Tower, En-Route and Approach, and can be used to design and execute specific exercises to cover the training objectives set for the different phases in the training of an air traffic controller (initial, advanced, unusual and emergency situations, etc.).

ALTIUS is an application developed in Java to be used on personal computers. The simulation is configurable and scalable from a single working position to several coordinated positions.

The following training objectives can be met with the TOWER exercises in ALTIUS:

• Familiarization with the airspace• Aerodrome Control Service• Flight Information Service

• Alert Service• ATC communications• ATC clearances• ATC instructions• ATC coordinations• Altimetry

• Separation on ground• Separation• Provision of Aerodrome Control Service• Information to aircraft• Holding patterns• Runway in use

• Take-offs• Landings• Mapping and altimetry• AIP• Instrument navigation

The following training objectives can be met with the EN-ROUTE exercises in ALTIUS:

• Familiarization with the airspace• Area Control Service• Flight Information Service

• Alert Service• ATC communications• ATC clearances• ATC instructions• ATC coordinations• Altimetry

• Ground separation• Separation (vertical and horizontal)• Delegation• Radar separation• Surveillance service with ATS radar• Vectoring

• Holdings• Identification• Mapping and altimetry

The following training objectives can be met with the APPROACH exercises in ALTIUS:

• Familiarization with the airspace• Approahc Control Service• Flight Information Service

• Alert Service• ATC communications• ATC clearances• ATC instructions• ATC coordinations• Altimetry

• Ground separation• Separation (vertical and horizontal)• Delegation• Radar separation• Surveillance service with ATS radar• Vectoring

• Holdings• Identification• Mapping and altimetry
