We couldn’t quite travel around the world but we talked about where in the world the book character found each ingredient as we mixed and

baked.

Then we put it in the microwave and cooked

it!Our pie turned out great, but unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to

take a picture of the final product before we ate it. It was so yummy!

Here is the recipe if you would like to try it at home.

• Ingredients• CRUST• 1 cup All Purpose or Unbleached

Flour• 1 tablespoon sugar• 1/4 teaspoon salt• 1 teaspoon cinnamon• 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg• 1/3 cup shortening• 3 to 4 tablespoons cold water• FILLING• 6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples• 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar• 2 tablespoons flour• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon• 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg• Dash salt• TOPPING• 1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats• 1/4 cup flour• 1/4 cup sugar• 2 tablespoons brown sugar• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon• 1/4 cup margarine or butter

Directions1- MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: 1. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle flour mixture with water, 1 tablespoon at a time, while tossing and mixing lightly with fork. Add water until dough is just moist enough to hold together.

2- Shape dough into a ball. Flatten ball; smooth edges. On lightly floured surface, roll ball lightly from center to edge into circle 1 1/2 inches larger than inverted 9-inch microwave-safe pie pan. Fold dough in half; place in pie pan. Do not stretch. Fold edge under to form standing rim; flute. Prick bottom and sides of crust generously with fork. Microwave on HIGH for 5 to 6 minutes or until crust looks dry and flaky, rotating pan 1/4 turn twice during cooking.

3- In large bowl, combine all filling ingredients; mix well. Spoon filling into cooked crust. In same bowl, combine all topping ingredients; sprinkle over filling, covering completely. Microwave on HIGH for 10 to 14 minutes, rotating pan 1/4 turn twice during cooking, or until apples are tender and filling begins to bubble. Cool 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
