Transcript of How do spatial factors influence gym preference
ISM GYMSBy: Andrew, Zehn, Malen, Martin, and
Bea
What is our project about?Hypothesis: We believe the MS gym is
preferred to the HS gym because of the size, brightness and location.
We wanted to know what people preferred: the MS or HS gym
Both gyms are far away from each otherThe places people go to (canteen, library etc.)
are closer depending on the gym
Why is this important?
Atmosphere is very important for one to feel comfortable in a certain place. Our aim is to find out in which gym HS students can really enjoy doing sports.
This can also help for future reference.
Number of people who chose each reason for preferring the MS Gym

Data collection methods:
Questioning: A simple question sheet was devised with the following question- ‘Do you prefer the MS Gym over the HS Gym; do you think that the brightness, location, size or quality of equipment of either gym has affected your choice?’
Measuring distances: We used a ‘meter-wheel’ to measure the width/length of both gyms and the distances from both gyms to landmarks.
Comparison of both gyms’ sizes
ConclusionMost coaches preferred the MS GYM
Most Freshmans preferred the HS GymMost Sophomores preferred the MS Gym
Most Juniors preferred the MS GymMost Seniors preferred the HS Gym
Evaluation
1. Data was collected quite late; which lead to problems in terms of completing the project the best way we could.
2. Although only HS students (and 5 PE teachers) were interviewed since they’ve experienced both Gyms; it would be a fairer test and less biased if a few Ms students were interviewed.
3. Would’ve been better to have more distances from Gyms to certain landmarks in order to have more quantitive data to compare with.
