What is Supported Lodgings?
Supported Lodgings is a scheme set up to providehousing for homeless Young People within
people’s homes, known as Hosts. The length ofstay can vary from short to longer periods.
Why do Young People need SupportedLodgings?
Some Young People are not able to live at homeand would benefit from developing their
independence whilst living with a responsibleadult in the safety and security of their home.
Who can become a Supported LodgingsHost?
Supported Lodgings Hosts come from all walks oflife and backgrounds. It does not matter if you
are married, single or living as a couple and thereare no restrictions based on your age, ethnicity,
religious or sexual orientation.
What do I need to become a SupportedLodgings Host?
· A spare room and a willingness to share yourhome with a Young Person between the ages of
16-25.
· An interest and concern for the welfare ofYoung People.
· A commitment to treating Young People withrespect, care and sensitivity.
· An ability to communicate effectively withYoung People and to support them in an
empowering way.
· An ability to work in a positive and professionalmanner with the Supported Lodgings Team and
other agencies.
· Patience, compassion, understanding and agood sense of humour!
What are the benefits of becoming a Supported Lodgings Host?
· You will be undertaking a meaningful andrewarding occupation that can be carried out
alongside your existing employment or as a fulltime career.
· You will be provided with professional trainingand development.
· You will be paid a support charge to deliversupport to the Young Person to develop their
skills ready for independence.
· You will be paid rent for the use of the room.
· You will be supported and supervisedthroughout the placement.
What service is the Supported LodgingsHost required to deliver?
The Host, with the backup of the SupportedLodgings Co-ordinator, will provide support to the
Young Person. The aim is to assist the YoungPerson to develop the skills and confidence theyneed to live independently and maintain their
accommodation.The type and level of support will be agreed
before each Young Person moves in.
Are there any reasons why I can’t become a Supported Lodgings Host?
Extensive references are required for allprospective Supported Lodgings Hosts, including
police checks. Only certain serious criminalconvictions will automatically disqualify you from
becoming a Host.
