HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
I WILL DISCUSS ALL THE MEDIA THAT I HAVE USED
FOR MY BLOG WORK (ADVANCE PORTFOLIO),
ANCILLARY TEXT AND FILM TRAILER.
THESES' ARE ALL THE MEDIA TECHNOLOGY THAT I HAVE USED
GARAGE BAND
Garage band served a purpose as a straightforward studio programme, which included
creating and editing sound/music, even voice recorder (voice overs). Garage band help me
and my group by getting sound effects such as the gun sound, alarm bell, swoosh sound that
comes with the titles and many others within the trailer.
The programme had a simple layout which didn’t confuse any member in my group, finding
the right sound that we wanted also even doing voice recording. The voice recording came in
use when we needed to do a voice over that was clear for are trailer. For the sound/music to
go on are trailer in final cut pro we had to export them into iTunes, which meant that we had
to sign names and description for the sound to be exported in to iTunes.
PHOTOSHOP
Photoshop served a impotent purpose, as this was the programme that I used when constructing my ancillary
texts(poster and magazines). This was used to edit pictures that were uploaded mainly pictures of the protagonist,
along side that was to create titles. Photoshop had the right tools and setting to allow me as a user to design my
poster and magazine due to their variety of fronts, page size, etc. Even due it didn’t have a major role in the
evaluation and stages in my final project.
The way which I used Photoshop, was that it had many tools such as ‘Magnetic Lasso tool’ this allowed me to get
a particular section of a an image then crop it, which allow me to place it to different files. Photoshop had a part
called lap layers for text box's and images this allowed me to over lap or under lap parts that I want to show or hide,
this was used for the magazine the majority of the time, as images and texts tend to overlap each other more than
posters do. An example where I did this was place my protagonist behind everything text and image( expect for the
background). These ancillary would then go on my Blog and the stages which I went though.
YOUTUBEYouTube had a major role when it came to my blog researching and planning stage.
YouTube allowed me to research an enormous amount of films that were the same genre as my
product such as 21 & 22 jump street, pain and gain, run fat boy run and others. This meant that I
could understand codes and conventions of sports, comedy by viewing real other media products
and analysing it. This would as include taking screenshots of comment sections to get an idea of
audience feedbacks.
Another way YouTube was a used it had tutorials. Tutorials of how to use final cut pro advance tool
and effects, Photoshop advance editing.
Another purpose YouTube had, it was the place which me and my group uploaded all of are vlogs,
evaluation question and are final product onto. We choose YouTube as it’s a site that most people
are familiar with and isn’t complex to understand or use.
PREZI AND POWERPOINT
The way I used Prezi and PowerPoint were used for researching plenty of technology, software, films
and posters.
This is the programme which I presented some of my work as it is simple and straightforward and
has lots of different layouts for instance my research into film trailers such as codes and convention.
This would make more interesting to read as it will appear to the audience more.
But Prezi and PowerPoint had a different purpose for my blog. Prezi was used mainly used or highly
creative work or an answer for my evaluation questions,.While powerpoint was used for simple work
such as gathering data, creating tables and reaching into film genres and trailers.
FINAL CUT PRO
Final cut pro is a editing software that allows users to place, edit and trim footages into films or videos. It includes a variety of tools such as sound
correction, fading or darkening clips and colour correction to lighter the clips. This software was my groups first choice as we had previous experience
of using it also it doesn’t have a complex layout but a more simple and straight forward one.
Final cut pro was used so that we could import footages from are camera directly, also other software's such as motion, pictures which would have are
Titles on them. . It was also used to export are project into to a movie clip file, which then we uploaded on YouTube. Final Added also includes
The way which I used this software was structuring my media project in order by using the timeline component, of how we wanted the audience to
view are product, so placing clips into sections that we wanted them to be. Another way which we used this software was editing and effects, we did
editing by putting dots on sections of clips where we wanted them to fade in or fade out, or even crop section of clips which was to long. The last way
which we used editing was we would put sound on top of a rage of clips which was the same to create an L-cut. If the sound was slightly lower In a
particular clip, final cut had an sound adjustment, which allowed us to adjust the sound to suit the other scenes or put higher, this included faded in or
out sounds. Section.
The way which we used effects was to correct scene lighting that were to dark or had colour faults , we did this by using a going on to effect and using
colour correction which adjusted the clip saturation, this made thing easy as we didn’t have to re film scenes, which saved us time for more editing.
CAMERA
The camera was are pre production section which is highly important , without it their would not be a
production at all, as we filmed are trailer along side that one of the evaluation question, we filmed by
camera. During are time we had to make switches with cameras this was because are first camera
that was fairly a new mode had bad audio which made it difficult to get what the actors were saying.
Another reason why we had to switch was that camera had issue of focusing on he actors but
instead would go to the background. The main reason was that we as a group didn’t have enough
experience with using the new model camera, so we had to use a older version which we had
experience with making it easy to delete clips we didn’t like.
MOTIONMotion is programme where it allows users to create titles that are fancy or professional. this is not
as straightforward as the other programmes but I had experience of using it, which is targeted at
editors.
The purpose of motion for my project was to create titles such as name, release dates and
production and distribution company title. This programme included a range of tools such as different
fronts(and sizes) and effects like fade in for the titles which we used when constructing are titles .
Motion also allows users to change, edit the background even add animation to the background of
the titles which we my group only used once for a particular title.
We had options to use this programme or live type but my group decide to use this due to previous
experience also that it had better effects and design which we were looking for. An example of an
effect that we used was spotlight
IMAC
The iMac made thing really simple in terms of having all the programmes already there. This includes
majority of programmes such as Final cut pro, motion, garage band and many others. Without the
iMac it would have been really difficult to get programmes and finish off are final project, Ancillary
texts (magazine and poster).
