Page1 April 2021 Resorter How ‘bout It By Yvonne Kaelin My brother and I went tolling around the other day to do some exploring. We went on Hwy 68 toward Katherine’s Landing and passed the campground adjacent to the bridge. I had never known those houses were built originally to house workers building the Davis Dam. The dam opened in 1951 and the two-bedroom, one bath houses were sold afterward for $12,000. I can only imagine there value now. Heading to Lake Mohave we turned at Katherine’s Landing and drove down to Cabin Site Point. There are camping sites, a motel, Visitors Bureau and stores, as well as a boat launch. The blue water was dotted with docked boats. If you need work on you watercraft, there is also a boat repair. Next we drove down the dirt road to Princess Cove. It’s a quiet area with picnic tables, grills and bathrooms. Looking across the lake you can see a white sand beach on the Nevada side. A pair of Mallard ducks greeted us there .If I had known we had a welcoming committee I would have brought something for them Jogging around the roads we came first to North Telephone Cove and then over to South Telephone Cove. The beaches are beautiful white and we came across a young family enjoying the sunshine. Looking across was a white peak, Christmas Tree Pass. I noticed that all the places that had boat launches also had racks of life jackets to borrow for your stay. I’ve been here almost four years and had never known this beauty was this close. From Faith…… Thank you EVERYONE who contributed to making this the MOST successful season ever for Vista Del Sol. Thank you, Linda, for welcoming our guests starting with the first phone call, through check-in and after, thank you Wade and Lee for keeping the property in Five Star condition and thank you Kathy for making the FUN happen. Many memories were made here this past season, many friendships were made, and we all endured despite what we have had to experience this past year. I look forward to next year and what we can do to top this one. And speaking for the entire staff; we wish you all “Happy Travels” and eagerly await your return. What we did in April April was another fun month here at Vista Del Sol

We held a fun Easter mystery egg event, in which participants got a ticket to match up with an egg and then received the prizes that were within. Also, yummy banana splits were served.

As usual we had a couple FUN card bingo games, Larry has started calling the cards and is getting really creative in the game play.

Our Luau was held on a really nice evening to be outdoors. Fun and festive attire as well as decorations were included with a good Hawaiian themed feast. We had a few door prize winners, along with Gordy Carlson winning the 50/50 drawing.

Our first and last potluck of the year was also held in April. Our Chillin at the Grill was another fun evening. It was nice to be able to share some of our favorite food with each other. Five participants in the evening also went home with some fun door prizes.

These events along with our regularly scheduled activities made for another enjoyable month and time well spent with each other.

We will be back in October to get the 2021-2022 season started. We all look forward to having more fun together.

Watch for new ideas to come as well as our “oldies but goodies” events.

From the Wood Shop

Wood Shop News Thanks to all for making 20-21 season the best yet!!!

User activity was up three to four times over the 2019-20 season.

All kinds of useful and beautiful projects were handcrafted: Beanbag Baseball boards, cabinets, shelving, bed headboard, picnic table. Lathe items: writing pens of all types, bottle stoppers, ice cream scoops, large and small bowls, mugs, steins. hand-carved cactus with critters and toys, cutting boards, and many kitchen items, and even a miniature lighthouse.

And don’t forget that incredible Saint Patrick’s Day dinner and auction attended by almost 50 people.!!

Enjoying a good time is always available in the shop because of our really great friends who shared the bonds of creativity and wood.

Thanks to: Anni, Pam, Cindy Faith, Rochelle, Teri, Melody, Michelle, Jacque, Linda, Kim, Kathy, the Mike's (4 of them), Ray, Rick, Brad, Larry, Marty, Joe, Bill, Chuck, Dan, Ron, Jeff, Keith, Pete, and many more.

Looking forward to next season. We hope to make improvements in the shop layout and equipment. The summer Shop Steward is Rick Perry.

“Off – Road”

As the season winds down, most of the Off-Road group says its good-byes to the desert until fall. With the temps climbing the desert is no place to be without air conditioning. We offered a large number of those visiting VDS RV resort a chance to see what the desert looks like from the front seat of one of our buggies. What a thrill they were able to experience. I believe some will be back to ride again. So, until then be safe, bring plenty of water if you go out exploring and we’ll see you soon.
