COMMUNITY CONNECTOR TANDRIDGE GP integrated mental health service
The GP integrated mental health service (GPimhs) is a new service provided through Surrey and Borders
Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to bring expert advice and guidance for people experiencing a wide
and potentially complex range of mental health & emotional wellbeing issues into GP practices within
North Tandridge.
The GPimhs service consists of a team of practitioners from different NHS and community backgrounds
who are experienced in helping people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing, working
closely with GPs. They will be working to connect people with services to provide the support in the
community.
EXPERTISE
We’d like to introduce Nic Denny who is our new Community Connector in north Tandridge who will
providing the GPimhs on behalf of RF. Nic brings a wealth of expertise with him from his previous roles
within Richmond Fellowship: He previously has led the Employment Service at our Leatherhead office,
acting service manager at our social enterprise, The Old Moat, Epsom and worked in our Croft House
supported housing service based at East Molesey.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BE REFERRED TO GPIMHS?
GPimhs is for anyone over 18 who is registered with a GP in Caterham Valley Medical Practice, Chaldon
Road Surgery / Warlingham Green Medical Practice, Elizabeth House Medical Practice, Townhill
Medical Practice or Whyteleafe Surgery.
WHO CAN REFER TO GPIMHS?
GPs or Practice Nurses are able to make referrals to GPimhs within the
eligible surgeries in North Tandridge, listed above.
Due to the current outbreak of COVID-19 face to face appointments are
not currently available but staff will be able to discuss the best method to
support and communicate with new people when they ring to arrange
the first appointment. Alternatives to face to face appoints can include
telephone or a secure online video call.

Tech to connect PROJECT Surrey Coalition for the Disabled are championing a project to provide
technology and support in using technology as well as virtual groups to
reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation in people with care and
support needs across Surrey.
Unpaid carers, people who are disabled, people who are older and people who
have long-term health condition, or mental health-illness are all at a higher risk of
experiencing loneliness. Surrey Coalition for the Disabled have instigated a project
to provide technology, support in using technology and virtual groups to reduce feel-
ings of loneliness and isolation in people with care and support needs across Surrey.
If people do not have their own device already, SCoD can lend them a device called a
‘phablet’ for 6 months after which they can decide if they would like to make a dona-
tion towards its cost to keep it (so that SCoD can buy a replacement) or if they would
like to return the phablet.
TECH ANGELS The Tech to Connect Tech Angels are a team of volunteers and we call them our ‘Tech
Angels’. We will match participants up with a Tech Angel if they would like someone
to help them learn how to use the phablet device that we have supplied. The Tech
Angel will give some training in how to stay safe online and how to join
virtual groups and how to join other meetings that some people go to
in-person but that could be joined by video.
Tech Angels will also assist in identifying local free Wi-Fi hotspots for
those with limited data and internet usage.
Virtual Groups can also be accessed through the Surrey Virtual Well-
being Hub: virtualwellbeing.healthysurrey.org.uk
Referring to Tech to Connect Referral Forms can be found on the Surrey Coalition website and people can either
self- refer or be referred by a third party professional.
Richmond Fellowship have successfully referred two people to the Tech
to Connect project and they have been delighted to now be connected!

COVID-19 UPDATE
Community Connections stays virtual We are pleased to still offer support to our clients
through alternative media. There are no current plans
yet to return to office-based services as feedback from
people we support has been that they enjoy not having
to travel in order to still benefit from our support. So
our Community Connections advisors will continue to
work remotely and those we support can choose to have
their appointments by telephone, video call (What’s
App, Skype, Zoom) or through email updates.

As mentioned in last month’s feature, the Surrey Virtual
Wellbeing Hub is live. The majority of our popular
Wellbeing courses and support groups
are now accessible through the hub at
no charge.
The hub is clear and easy to use.

Safe haven virtual drop-in service At Richmond Fellowship we are committed to
supporting all our people as best we can and our
services continue to stay open with suitable
restrictions and safety protocols. Where appropriate, people in crisis can now attend a
Safe Haven consultation online via a video call. Video
calling is as convenient as a phone call, with the
added value of face-to-face communication. It can save time and money and remove the issue of travel
out of hours bringing care closer to home.
How does VIRTUAL SAFE HAVEN work? For a virtual visit, when you click on the link you enter the clinic’s online waiting area. The health service is
notified when you arrive, and your clinician will join you when ready, without needing to create an
account.
Click on the link: https://nhs.vc/sabp/safe-haven-redhill
On this web page, click the Start video call button and follow instructions
Your healthcare provider sees you arrive in the waiting area queue...
...and joins you in your video room as soon as they are free.
Is it secure? No information is stored. Video calls are secure; your privacy is protected. You have your own private video room that only authorised clinicians can enter.
How much does a video call cost? The video call is free (except for your internet usage).
How much internet data will I use? You don’t use any data while waiting for a clinician to join you. A video call uses a similar amount of data to Skype® or FaceTime®.
A pdf User Guide is attached.
Redhill safe Haven open FOR crisis The face-to-face Safe Haven drop-in crisis service for those in crisis is still open daily
from 6-11PM, with strict safety protocols adhered to.
However the Maintaining Wellbeing peer support sessions between 6-8pm has been
cancelled until further notice. Follow us on FaceBook:

Feature: ART MATTERS
FIGHTING DEPRESSION WITH Art Matters is the flagship community arts studio and
centre of wellbeing and mindfulness which forms part of the East Surrey Community
Connections service. Art Matters aims to connect communities and provide
pathways to recovery through Art Therapy.
The studio offers a personal approach, in which artists are encouraged to explore
their creativity allowing artists to develop new skills and confidence. On the next
page we have a piece ‘Connected’ by a current Art Matters artist inspired by
the Community Connections weekly creative project in which she explains
how Art Matters has benefited her and her fellow artists through the
lockdown.
Feeling broken? The Japanese have a custom of
filling the cracks of broken objects with gold,
called 継き - Kintsugi - golden joinery. They
believe that when something has suffered damage it
only adds to it's history and beauty. So embrace
your cracks and give them a gold lining!

CONNECTED by ART MATTERS ARTIST When I looked up the definition of the word Connected,
three words sprang up, United, Joined and Linked.
During this time of isolation and in the country’s lockdown, Art Matters has
kept us all, Connected, United, Joined and Linked to one another in its own
unique way.
We’ve stayed Connected by phone calls, I expect I’m not the only one when I
say, a phone call means a lot, having one of the team asking “how are you
doing?” is amazing, I don’t get many calls so receiving a call makes me
smile and I feel so excited to hear from Mark, David and Natasha. I’ve just
got a sewing machine and I bombarded Natasha with questions upon questions
and she answered every single one of them
and has helped me so much!
The regular emails,
keeping us all joined
together with what’s
happening and with so
much positive news,
advice and support, it’s been a real joy to read and
catch up on what’s new.
United through Zoom! How fun that was to take part in! It
was so nice to actually see Mark and our beloved studio
in the background! It looked so tidy and clean!
Linking us to the world of music through Spotify!
A playlist for us all to listen to!
Bringing out the music that has been inside us, inspiring
us, music that has been forgotten, music to raise us up!
They’ve included our Art Work for everyone to see on
Instagram and I’ve been amazed to see how many talented
artists they are in Art Matters.
This experience has kept us Connected in a way that
before lockdown I wouldn’t of even thought possible and
I’ve felt Connected to Art Matters, so a big thank you to
all of the team at Art Matters.
It’s opened my eyes to the world a little bit more and I
appreciate so much more what Art Matters has done for me
and how Art has been a God Send.
Connected, what a fabulous word you are.
Until we meet again. x We are sorry we are unable to include everyone’s work but more examples from Art Matters artists can be seen on Page 8.
