SHALLOW WATER HOVERCRAFT SYSTEM SYSTEM NUMBER P20000 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The Shallow Water Hovercraft System P20000 consists of a 36-foot, diesel-powered, hovercraft-type workboat equipped with a VHF marine mobile radio, a radar, a 50-foot shore power cable, and a tool box. The following ancillary items are onboard: a compass, anchor and anchor line, headsets for communicating inside the vessel, life preservers, a first aid kit, a flare kit, spare skirt segments, spare skirt cable, skirt repair kit, spare parts, oil, fuel, and air filters, oil, electrical fuses, light bulbs, a hover beacon, a flashlight, and all the necessary manuals for operating, maintaining, and servicing the 36’ Hovercraft WB0975. The P20000 system is designed to support the inflatable boom tending boats, which are generally smaller, slower, and usually busy with their task of tending boom. During large spill operations, skimmers and maintenance vessels can be scattered over very large distances; 100 miles is not uncommon. The Shallow Water Hovercraft System makes it possible to supply crews with meals, parts, water, and other necessary items, as well as tend to emergencies and change out relief crews. WORKBOAT, 36’ HOVERCRAFT, DIESEL ESSM NUMBER WB0975 DESCRIPTION The 36’ Hovercraft WB0975 is a fully amphibious hovercraft capable of carrying a crew of four and as many as nine passengers. The craft operates on a cushion of low pressure air, contained under the craft by a flexible, segmented rubber skirt. The skirt allows the craft to lift approximately 23 inches above the operating surface, and obstacles not exceeding this height will pass under and through the flexible skirt with a minimum of drag. Air for the cushion is supplied by a centrifugal-type fan situated forward of the engine. Air is drawn through a louver into the air intake bay and then into the central eye of the fan. Air is directed into the skirt through ducts on each side of the craft. Power to the lift fan and the propeller is supplied by a Cummins 6CTA 8.3M-1 water-cooled engine. The engine is protected by a knit mesh filter system through which cooling and combustion air is drawn. The knit mesh filters are removable for cleaning and for access to the service bay. Two doors provide access to the engine for routine servicing; for major overhauls the access doors can be removed. The radio requires a supply voltage of 13.8- volt dc negative ground and operates in the frequency range of 156-163 MHz The radio has 58 programmed marine transmit/receiver channels and 10 weather channels.
