Problems:

• Everyone should be on the Common lookout for :

• Poor Flooring

• Unsuitable footwear

• Slippery surfaces

• Obstructions in walkways

• Inappropriate lighting or restricted vision

• Unnecessary haste.

• Bad housekeeping (cleanliness)

• Look out for hazards all around you

• Deal with the hazards in an appropriate manner

Poor Flooring:

• Whether you work in an office, factory or the Shop• floor, a major cause of slips and trips is poor flooring.

Look out for the following• Loose floorboards• Cracked floor surfaces or damaged / missing tiles etc.• Old linoleum and carpets, in poor condition• Loose and worn out mats• Accidental spills onto a good floor surface• Report any problems to an appropriate person

Footwear:

• Where the Risk Assessment identifies the risk, an employer may be required to provide staff with Protective Equipment. This could include footwear. Where this is NOT the case, avoid wearing footwear which increases your risk of slipping / tripping

• Give people responsibilities to ensure that areas are kept safe

• Maintain a Record of who is responsible for which arrangements

CONTROL• Check to ensure that practices are being carried out

correctly• Ensure a mechanism is in place by which problems
