Brown Coal Welcomes the New Secretary (Coal)
Brown Coal Welcomes Shri Sumanta Chaudhuri, I.A.S, who assumed office
as Secretary (Coal) on 27.11.2018 at New Delhi. Shri Chaudhuri belongs to
the 1985 (26.08.1985) Batch I.A.S. from West Bengal Cadre. Prior to
assuming charge as the Secretary (Coal), he was the Managing Director of
Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium in the Department of Agriculture
Co-operatives and Farmers’ Welfare.
Brown Coal Welcomes our New Director (Mines)Shri Prabhakar Chowki, assumed office as the Director (Mines) of our company on
28.11.2018 at Neyveli. An Engineering Graduate in Mining with distinction from the
Osmania University, Hyderabad. Shri Prabhakar Chowki Holds 1st Class Certificate of
Competency in Coal under the Indian Mines Act. Prior to joining our company, he was
working as the General Manager in Coal India Limited (CIL). Shri Chowki joined CIL on
18.08.1984 as a Junior Engineer, and has 35 years of experience in Mine Planning,
Supervision, Direction, Control, Production and Management in both Underground and
Opencast Coal Mines. Of this 13 years were in
Specialized Service at Surface Mining and In pit
Crushing Conveying System with the Western
Coalfields Limited and Central Coalfields Limited. He is
a Life Member of Mining, Geological & Metallurgical
Institute of India (MGMI).
MoU Signed with CIL to form a JV Company
NLCIL signed a Memorandum of Understanding with
Coal India limited, Kolkata for formation of a Joint
Venture Company for setting up Solar Power
Projects of 3000 MW and Thermal Power Projects of
2000 MW. Shri N.N.M.Rao, Director (P&P), NLCIL
and Shri Binay Dayal, Director (Technical),
C IL s igned the MoU in the p resence o f
Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD, NLCIL and Shri Anil
Kumar Jha, CMD, CIL on 08.10.2018 at the Head
Quarters of CIL in Kolkata. Equity participation will be
50:50 with Debt equity ratio of 70:30 as per the
norms of the Central Electricity Regulatory
Commission.

The 63rd Incorporation day of our company which is on 14th November recalled the overcoming of obstacles and roadblocks by our predecessors enabling to register as a Navratna company and consistently galloping to reach the Maharatna status.

We have signed an MoU with M/s Coal India Limited for setting up of solar and thermal power projects of 5000 MW.
On the Organisation Front, around 1000 contract men are getting enrolled in Indcoserve society of Tamil Nadu. The wage revision for non-executives and workmen is in the process of Finalisation.
Dear Colleagues,
NLCIL has again proved its responsibility to empathise with the Kerala Flood sufferers and the Recent GAJA aftermath by contributing to the Relief Fund and also raising to the occasion by lending support in the Rehabilitation Exercise by deputing the Equipments and Manpower to restore normalcy. I also appreciate the Donation of one day Salary by our employees to this noble cause.
As a part of enhancing Knowledge, a national level seminar on the Theme “ Thermal Power Issues – Challenges and Way Forward” to share the best practices adopted acress the industry, Sessions on IT enablement for Transparent Working and Risk Management was conducted with active participation.
The Vigilance Awareness Week 2018 organised resulted in ever lasting values of integrity in young minds. The Ethical day on 18.11.2018 was well received.
Let us prove our potential and add wealth to the Nation.

seminar.300 participants from NTPC, BHEL, CERC,
CAPS, SIEMENS and NLCIL were present at the
10 Technical Sessions wherein 30 papers were
presented. Valediction was held at the venue on
27.10.2018.
Shri Thangapandian in his address said the significance
of the seminar is in consideration with the requirement of
power in future since the vehicles will operate with

Inauguration Valediction
In commemoration with VAW a two day seminar on ‘IT
Enablement for Transparent Working ‘ was organized at
the L&DC on 05-06 October’2018. Shri Rakesh Kumar,
CMD inaugurated the seminar in the presence of
Shri V.Thangapandian, Director (Power and Mines),
Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) and the CVO. The CMD
in his address said that “Our Company is able to provide
a Transparent Management with New Information
Technology”. 150 employees were trained in
12 Sessions on various topics including Security at
Office, Net, Mobile, CCTV Cameras, e office and
Drones.
To mark the occasion Customer Meet was organized on
24.10.2018. State level Short Film Competition, Essay,
Elocution, Poetry and Painting Competitions were
organized in various educational institutions of the state.

National Science Day 2018 CelebratedThe National Science Day is celebrated in India on the 28th day during the month of
February each year since the year 1987 to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by
the Indian Physicist and Nobel Laurite Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on
28.02.1928. The Neyveli Chapter of the Tamilnadu Science Forum organized the
National Science Day 2018 Celebrations at Learning & Development Centre, Neyveli
on 22.10.2018. Shri R. Vikraman, Director (HR), had a word of appreciation for the
members of the Neyveli Chapter of Tamilnadu Science Forum for motivating students
on the importance of learning and applying science in their day to day life.
Birth Anniversary of Bapuji Celebrated
The 149th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Gandhiji at
Neyveli began with Shri V.Thangapandian, Director
(Power and Mines) garlanding the bust of the father of
the nation at Township Administration Office in the
presence of Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR),
Smt Kanchan Rakesh Kumar, President, Neyveli Ladies
Club, Patrons Smt Devahi Thangapandian, Smt Shanthi
Vikraman and Smt Aruna Rao. Shri Thangapandian in
his address said that “Gandhiji was a man of true words,
Great Leader and a Fighter for justice with simple living
and high thinking”. As a part of the Swachhtahi Seva
Directors, Patrons, Employees, Students and
Representatives of Union and Association cleaned an
area of Daily Market. Function at the Learning &
Development Centre began with students reading
scriptures from the Gita, Bible, Quran and Naladiyar.

61st Republic Day Sports – State Level Athletic Meet at Neyveli
61st Republic Day Sports – State Level Football Meet at Karur
Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) gave away the cup to the winners, Annamalai University, Chidambaram team on 22.10.2018 at the valediction function at the stadium.
The Town Club of our company under the aegis of the company organized the Inter College-Inter University of Southern India Women’s Football Tournament from 19.10.2018 to 22.10.2018 at Bharathi Stadium, Neyveli. Teams from various institutions and varsities from the southern States of Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and the Union Territory of Pondicherry participated. Veterans of south india also participated in matches with teams from Dindugul, Kanyakumari, Ooty and Pondicherry.
The Director in his address said that a Sports activity improves both the physical and psychological health.
Our Company Hosted the 61st Republic Day Sports – State Level Athletic Meet from 10.11.2018 to 12.11.2018
at Bharathi Stadium, Neyvel on request from the Ta m i l n a d u S c h o o l E d u c a t i o n D e p a r t m e n t . Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) inaugurated the event in the presence of Shri Saba Rajendran, Hon’ble Member, TNLA, Shri V. Anbuselvan I.A.S, District Collector, C u d d a l o r e , S h r i M . Va s u , J o i n t D i r e c t o r , Tamilnadu School Education Department and Shri K.Palaniswamy, Chief Education Officer, Cuddalore. 2236 Students including 1048 Girls Under 14-17 and 19 Years participated in the 19 events held for the boys and girls.The winners were presented Medals and Cash awards on 12.11.2018.
Football Team consisting of 17 students of Jawahar Matric Higher Secondary School, Neyveli won the Finals at the 61st Republic Day Sports-State Level Football Meet held at Karur from 16 to 18 Nov. 2018, won the Chennai team Scoring 5-4 in Tiebreaker. This qualifies them to participate at the Suboroto Nationals to be held at NewDelhi. The Players received individual certificates and cash awards from the Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu. 3000 students from 18 Districts of Tamilnadu participated in the meet. Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) appreciated the team,
their Coach and the Head of the Instituion for their contribution .

One-day Hindi Workshop was organized on 03.12.2018 at Learning & Development Centre, Neyveli. Dr.G.Logeswar, Assistant Professor, HOD of Oriental Languages, Loyola College, Chennai addressed the 46 employees who have cleared Pragya and Parangth on ‘Official Language Act 1963 & Rules 1976, Annual Programme 2018-19 and Noting & Drafting in Hindi.
Shri K.Samidoss, Senior Foreman, SME/RC/Mine-II won the First Place both at Mines and State Level Welding Proficiency Analysis during the Safety Week Celebrations 2018. Shri Utpal Saha, Deputy Director General, Mines Safety, South Zone, Bengaluru presented him the prize in the presence of Shri Rakesh Kumar, CMD and Shri R.Vikraman, Director (HR) of our company.
