1. TOPIC OF THE THESIS/PROJECT WORK “HOTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM"

2. INTRODUCTION AND RELATED WORK DONE:

2.1 INTRODUCTION

In our project, on “hotel management system”, we have tried to show how

the Data/information in hotels is managed. This is just an overview of

management in hotels. This has been achieved by dividing the project into

various modules. Customer is provided with different services like booking,

booking can be advance booking or current booking. If the customer wants

he/she can cancel his/her advance booking. Enquiry about any customer can

be made either by customer id or customer name. Enquiry about room can

also be made. Our project also includes the module for Restaurant facility.

Customer can order for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Refreshment. Our

project will generate reports for customer, employees (working in hotel) and

Bill for customer is generated when the customer will check out from the

hotel. We have included only few modules as our Purpose is to only have

the idea or to study about how the management is done in hotels. By adding

many more modules this type of project can have scope in various hotels.

We have used .NET framework for developing this project and language

used is VB.NET.SQL is used as a back-end for all data/information

processing. Operating system is Windows 2000/XP. Project is feasible since

it fulfills the requirements that any software needs to be operationally,

economically and technically feasible. The project is built on a .NET

framework, which manages type-safe environment for its application

development and execution. This environment administers all aspects of

program execution.

After going through the existing system, problem was identified and the

scope of development was finalized.

2.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

In today’s era when the world is moving at such a fast pace, it is the

utmost requirement that the processing in all fields should be as fast as

possible. To achieve this purpose, I tried to make the present manual

Hotel Management System computerized one. If the present system is

maintained, a lot of paper work is required, many registers have to be

maintained and a lot of duplication of records may be there.

In proposed computerized system, all the required data is stored in a

database and the query processing of user is very fast. It provides

various functionalities with in a narrow time window.

The interface of my system is a very user friendly and provides a

better functionality as compared to the present manual system.

Hotel Management System is a Web Based Application specifically

developed the companies to maintain and manage their customers

documents. It is a fully automated system to storing, tracking and

segregating any number of documents.

By having consultants directly enter information through the system

form; the chance of error can be reduced.

3. OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

When everyone on the project team has conflicting objectives, the Project

is bound to suffer. For example, the user demands a Workable system,

while the designer strives for a high-powered Code. The comptroller

interprets success from the bottom line, whatever the cost.

This project is for Hotel Management Automation. It is a very efficient

and has many important features for different operations. It is capable for

perform all operations related to automation and reporting system of

hotel .It is a multi –user program that can be runs on the network. It has

very simple interface so the user can operate it very easily. The most

important feature of this project is its security options to prevent

unauthorized access. It has very easy and common interface and options

so it is user-friendly software.

This software has the option to add new user with the Username and

Password. The user can logon to the system with his Username and

correct Password. Another main thing is that the software is created in

different modules so the manipulations can be done easily. One of the

most important benefits of the modular designing is that the testing

becomes very easy.

8

Page 9: Hotel Management System

The output can be getting easily by using its feature. This can be done

through Microsoft Crystal Reports. The format of the reports is very

simple and easy to understand by the user.

The project is capable and flexible to fulfill the entire requirements

related to automation and reporting system of hotel. So this software can be

feasible and reliable in future. It can produce the output very efficiently

without or minimum changes.

4. SCOPE AND RELAVANCE OF STUDY

Any project never is considered whole. Whether one claims that

His/her product is the whole, this is out of sense. Even the product of

Microsoft and Sun Microsystems are still in the development cycle however

their some versions are released. The released version of the presented

project will also be reviewed and maintained continuously. Because this

project is ultimately analyzed, designed, tested, implemented by me, there

may be many issues to be tackled in the project. But I hope that the current

version will be useful for the institutes that want to switch from manual to

computer system. But my tries and your advises always keeps this

application progressive. And if all will correct the next improved version of

this project will be in front of you.

Developing software on a topic like “hotel management system” has

much scope. It can be made more attractive and many more modules can be

attached to provide various services to customer. Our project provides

various services to the customer like booking (advance/current), cancellation

of advance booking, enquiring about any customer (by name/customer Id) or

about room availability. It also gives restaurant facilities (breakfast, lunch,

dinner, refreshment). The project has Scope in hotels since the routine

activities of managing departments become easy.

5. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Visual Basic is one of the languages supported by this platform. It is a

powerful and easy to use programming language. It has various

special features, which make it worth working with. Some of the

features are: -

It is a complete Object Oriented Language

It support a large number of data types along with many new data

types

It also supports exception handling model

It supports rapidly build GUI applications

It supports high performance Databases

These features along with some other special features help in

developing the current project.
